Protein Injectons
Most RTD protein shakes I've had taste like ass. The secret to shakes is to get creative. Even prior to surgery I would have a shake a day. I actually crave protein shakes now and love coming up with new recipes.
The secret is to find a few base flavors (like choc, vanilla, strawberry). Just because you might like "Brand A" chocolate doesn't mean that you'll like their strawberry. I have 5 different protein flavors in my house and EVERY brand is different. I use Optimum Nutrition Vanilla, Gaspari Strawberry, Isopure Chocolate, optimum Nutrition Chocolate and Cick Espresso. I also keep several frozen bananas in the freezer along with frozen berries and mixed fruits. Buy a few bottles of SF syrup, some SF Hershey's syrup and some PB2. PB2 is powdered peanut butter. It has 5g protein with next to no fat and only 45 calories per serving. It is PHENOMENAL in shakes. Buy some SF pudding mix to thicken these up and you're good to go!
Net-net, with what I described above you can make tons of different shake flavors. If you want some recipes, PM me and I. C an send some of the recipes my nutritionist gave me.
Good luck and hope this helps!

Kevin your ideas sound great... I guess I'm confused though because I was told I shouldn't add fruits to my shakes yet. Or is that just fresh fruit? Because I will go out and buy some frozen fruits tomorrow morning. I think it would make a world of difference with the shakes. I have a TON of different kinds of protein powder and a few SF syrups (I never thought about SF Hershey's) but the fruit....... I want the fruit...
Just wanted to throw this in. I am not sure you will ever get the amount of protein you need in your food anymore. I used to think that, stopped doing protein shakes and am now in a state of protein deficiency 7 yrs post-op. Not to scare you - just be careful. Try to find one that you like, but just remember the further out you get your taste buds may change so shall your protein brand may change also. One more thing, I know all surgeons are different but mine told me protein powder ONLY - NO pre-made ones - again all surgeons are different but since I am in the state I am in now and am close to being put on TPN for protein I have my ears wide open now.
