To meatball or not to meatball?
I make my own meat balls. Or actually Nik's meatballs http://bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com/2010/10/niks-magic-meatb alls.html
You could always use lean ground turkey instead of ground beef. I like making my own because the store bought kind tend to have bread crumbs as fillers.

I had a really bad experience the first time I had a meatball but now I stick to turkey meatballs and I"m fine. Trader Joe's sells prepackaged turkey meatballs in marinara sauce that are soooooo moist and tasty. I can usually only eat half of one but it goes really well chopped up finely in the ricotta and sauce.
I'm so glad my surgeon didn't tell me no red meat for a year! He did recommend not trying it for three to six months but a full year would kinda suck! Especially since my pouch doesn't handle chicken well. When it doesn't get stuck, it makes me sick to my stomach. :(
