dumb question thread

The extreme examples like that are hard to fathom, though if a person doesn't have health insurance and/or if they did a self-pay WLS where any complications aren't covered, my frugal soul understands the perhaps stupid hope that someone online can give them a home remedy that will keep them from having to go to the ER.

I've been known to contact my surgeon/PCP/Specialist about a problem, knowing it's not likely life threatening and ER related (as in, seeing doc tomorrow is okay) and then posting here for reassurance and other experiences so that I will know I'm making the right choice NOT to go to the ER. Usually this is something I'm doing in addition to already starting the action item of contacting a medical professional.

I know what you mean because I've seen your posts....but the things you are asking about are not life threatening such as blood coming from anywhere would constitute an ER in my opinion.

BTW--how is your backside since surgery???

Well I just had a hangnail ripped off nad it's bleeding, should I call 911?

I remember once a person was asking about vomiting up something that looked like coffee grounds ..... and I know enough to know that is EXTREMELY BAD but I also understood why the person might not know that, not everyone does. I also remember one of the noteable responses from someone ELSE who hadn't heard about how awfully bad that is saying "doesn't sound bad, I wouldnt' worry about it" which to me was the "case in point" about Mywhy message boards are only good for so much, but not further. I never did hear from that poster again, and I hope she didn't bleed out following the "don't worry about it" poster's response!

My backside is doing good. I've been exercising as often as possible but today that seems to me that I've been doing too much..... pain is a bit bad today. In some ways I'm looking forward to returning to work a week from Monday, but in others I know it's going to be a challenge. I'll come home from work and fall into sleep I'm pretty sure!

I am still quite hopeful that the end result is going to be that my pain will be absent, and that makes it worth while.

Maybe some medical folks can answer this one for me. When I woke up on the hospital I had pain but it was the gas not the incisions. The nurses told me that pain medicine wouldn't help with gas pain so I suffered through the first 24 hours. Is that true or could something have given me some relief?

Walking offered me no relief because it made me nauseous and I vomitted every time I walked.

I think my pain meds did help my gas pain though walking usually helps the most, if you can walk, of course.  Many people also say Gas-x helps but I didn't know that back then.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Pain meds can help with gas pains to a point, but like an epidural during labor, you may still feel the pressure fo the gas which for some people is interpreted as pain worse than anything else.

Walking really is the best way to help more that gas aorund and get your body to absorb it, but if you couldn't walk without throwing up they should have given you something for the nausea as well. No post-op should be confined to bed (high risk of clots) nor should they be vomiting with their new delicate internal rearrangement.
