Question for my RNYers
I am 4 and a half years out. I did not eat sweets or drink for a year. When I started to try sweets it made me very nauseous, but no dumping. I do have an occasional cookie. The alcohol hit me like a ton of bricks!! I am a total light weight. And also, like someone else posted the addiction to alcohol after RNY is high. Be very aware of this.
sweets don't bother me if eaten in small amounts. I still have my cookies and stuff, just not the whole box like I used to. Haven't had any alcohol so I can't tell you about that. I know most people don't do well with beer because of the carbonation. You will just have to try when you can in a small amount if you absolutely have to have it!!!
I personally stay away from the sweets--I only eat sugar free desserts(which is plenty sweet for me). Sweets were a trigger food for me so I stay away and I can honestly say I dont miss it. I do eat chips every once in a while when I'm craving crunchy/salty. My NUT suggests living by the 80/20 rule. If you eat healthy 80% of the year, then indulging 20% is ok. And who knows, your tastes may change after surgery and you won't like sweets! lol
I drink alcohol--I stick to wine tho. I had my first drink at 4 months out(was on vacay) but I had several drinks at about 8 months out. I suggest waiting until you are further out to drink tho.
