Potential silly question
So I had an IV in my hand and I've been home for a week now. And my hand hasn't hurt at all where the IV was but it suddenly started hurting and I know it probably shouldnt but I'm worrying about it. Is there anything to worry about? I know probably not because that vein had its butt kicked. Thoughts?
Maybe there is a bruise that u can't see. I haven't had surgery yet but last week I was in the hospital and my arm hurts and a week later I can just now see a bruise. Good luck ! Proud of u making it through the surgery -- I did the 3 months of classes & now waiting for insurance approval then surgon's meeting. Hope I don't have to go off meds for two months before surgery. Oh well I am moving forward.
Unless it looks infected, I would not worry. Like, is it very red? Any discharge from the puncture wound? Hot to the touch? Do you have a temp?

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I had the same issue, I had IVs in both forearms. Neither one bothered me once they were out until the day before my 1 week check up. My left IV site was swollen and hurt, the PA didn't seem to think anything of it though since it wasn't hot feeling or red.
I'm sure that it was probably just a deep bruising. Although if it starts feeling hot or turns red then call your doc.

I once (and only once, out of literally hundreds of IVs in my lifetime!) developed a small blood clot in a vein where the IV had been while in the hospital. What you have is probably just a bruise that is too deep to be seen, but if the area gets any TWO of hot, red, or swollen, call your surgeon or PCP. Even if it is a small blood clot, it is not really dangerous, but your doc needs to know about it and check it out.
