Seriously protein?? Seriously???

We are having the same problems! I just learned from my earlier post that 2 Oz's are fine. I'm not a cheese, bean or yogurt eater (LOL) but I have tried yogurt, made a homemade smoothie with it, but I put too much protein powder in it, eat ground beef, fish, and shrimp. I'm very limited in what I like but even those things make me feel funny after a few bites. I also HATE the calcium. I'm not getting it in at all. I got one of the chewables stuck and got sick. Since then I try to bite them but I HATE them. I will try to the suggestions that others sent you. Just wanted you to know that you are not alone.

My calcium is like carmel chews..they are actually pretty good, however, I am not aloud to have them right now, so I am hoping that they will be ok when I can have them.

I agree with Carol - concentrate right now on staying hydrated and walking some.  You will build up to being able to get the protein in.

Congratulations on your surgery!!

I understand your dilemma here is a great trick that has worked for me when amazingly nothing else has worked:

International coffee French Vanilla sugar free/decaf

3tsp (in a shaker cup)
12-16 oz of water
2tsp of torani sugar free caramel syrup
1 scoop of unflavored protein from GNC
Shake it all up like mad
Put it in your favorite coffee cup with a sprinkle of cinnamon and Mic it for 1:30
Don't make it to hot
I have very sensitive taste buds and I hate protein drinks and truthfully this is the only way I have not tasted the protein and it hasn't changed the consistency of what I've added it too.

Good luck! You're so new its going to plain ole be a challenge to get it all in anyway.

I really enjoy the calcium chews that are put out by GNC.  They are called "be-balanced" and they have 600 mg of calcium each with 800 iu of D3 to enhance calcium absorption.  They come in different flavors but my favorite is Dulce De Leche.  You just chew them (delicious!****il they completely disolve in your mouth.  You can order them on lne from GNC.  I forget how much they are but every time I go to GNC they are on a two bags for the price of one special.  I hope this helps!

Aren't those calcium carbonate, though?  We can't absorb that.

For calcium, I like Upcal D.  It's a powder you can mix in any drink and has no taste.

for protein, it took me a long time to find one I liked too.  All I can say is to keep trying different brands and different ways of making them.  Protein ice cream worked really well for me.

If we can't absorb those, then I have definitely been misinformed by the surgeon's nutritionist.  She recommended either these or Viactiv (both Calcium Carbonate).  I have a follow up on Monday and will double check.  Thanks for the info!  I've learned so much on this board!

You have been misinformed.

You need lots of stomach acid to absorb calcium carbonate but we don't have much stomach acid in our pouch.  We absorb something  like 4% of the calcium in a supplement with calcium carbonate, so you'd have to eat about 60 Viactivs a day.  Seriously.

That's why the ASMBS says we need calcium citrate.  You can ask your nutritionist why she disagrees with their stance on the issue.

Sadly, some nutritionists -- even those who work with WLS patients -- know very little about vitamins and what we can (D3, calcium citrate) and cannot (D2, calcium carbonate) absorb.
