Seriously protein?? Seriously???
According to my NUT I am supposed to be getting in 70 grams of protein a day. I can't stomach any protein shake. I could handle a little protein icy shake I made today but I could only drink about two ounces. I hate all the isopures and unflavored proteins. I am trying to eat cheese and beans and fish and yogurt with protein but I can only eat a little under 2 oz at a time and I am eating really slowly over about a half hour. I am just having so much trouble with the protein.
On a seperate note I am also having trouble with calcium. It's the only vitamin that I have that I think is horrible. I need to take three large chalky mint flavored horse chewable pills a day and they are just SO HORRIBLE. I have such a hard time with them! Any suggsestions?

Shoot for 70 gms.. Its ok if your not getting it all in.. It took me nearly 3 months before I was really getting in my protein. I hated all protein shakes, I couldnt even think to look at one. Over the last couple of weeks though I have gotten over it and I have a shake in the morning. I mix them up and add stuff to them. As far as the calcium goes I have never taken the chewables... so I dont know what to tell ya... Hang in there I swear it gets easier.

I don't have any ideas for the protein, but it will improve with time.
As far as calcium goes, I take these
http://www.metagenics.com/products/a-z-products-list/Cal-Apa tite-Forte-Capsules
because they're in capsule form. I tried calcium chews and pills, but this works the best for me.
I was told that you can dissolve the calcium pills in water and then drink the water, so that might work for you.
Good luck, and it will get easier.

For the calcium problem, order some of the Upcal D powder (tasteless) that you can mix with liquids and just drink.
As far as the protein, have you tried the Cytomax Cytosport Pure Protein flavored water (3 flavors available)? I couldn't gag down the Isopure protein waters but I really liked these.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
Have you tried Nectar Iced tea? That one is my favorite, you can put a lemon in it as well. Bariatric Advantage has calcium crystals 600 mg/scoop that you put in a bottle of water. You could do taht 2x/day and get your calcium in.
There are more choices than ever before for GBP patients. . .keep trying!

I had the same problem. i finally found the vanilla Whey protien Isolate from Gnc. i mix it with 28 oz of skim milk and dissolve 1 tblsp of coffee in it. let it get really cold in the freezer and it's great. I drink it every morning for breakfast. it has about 55 grams of protein with the milk and powder.
I made one last night that was actually pretty good. One scoop of chocolate protein, 4 oz skim milk, 1 TBSP of caramal flavoring (the ones from Dollar Tree) and a few ice cubes blended in the blender. First one I've enjoyed so far. I'm not a fan of nectar. At least I haven't found a flavor I like yet. Go to www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and she's got A LOT of good ideas for protein shakes. I think we just gotta mix it up!
I completely understand. I'm pretty much right where you are with the addition that my doctor wants me to AVOID protein shakes and try to get all my protein as solid foods. I'm eating five small meals a day and, more then protein even, I'm afraid I'm not getting enough calories a day to really keep the weight loss on. A typical day for me is:
Greek yogurt w/SF preserves: ~11g protein
2 string cheese sticks a day: ~16g protein
1/4-1/2 cup tuna w/mayo for lunch: ~13g protein
2oz white fish: ~13g protein
1/4 cup quinoa: ~2g protein
=~55g protein.
A shake would put me up over what I need but just the thought of them now makes me queasy. I know I could probably choke one down but it's really hard to convince myself to! I'll definitely have to try some of those protein waters. Maybe they'll be easier to swallow.

You are just a few days out from surgery. You should be concentrating on getting in as much of your water as possible and walking some each day. it takes time to reach the recommended totals of consumption of any of what we have to taken in. You are still healing and your pouch and reconstructed insides are still healing. There are countless recipes on the internet for ways to make protein more tasteful. I make hot chocolate with protein sometimes twice a day. I make one that tastes similare to a caramel macchiato. it just takes some experimenting. I use Now Sports unflavored whey isolate protein to mix into a lot of things. You just have to be careful and keep the temp of what you are adding it to under !40 degrees.
As for the vitamins and supplements, I was having the same problem with my calcium lozenges. They were big and chalky and I didn't like the texture when I chewed them. After talking to a rep from the company, he suggested I try letting the dissolve in my mouth. Much better. Also, Bariatric Advantage has calcium chews in chocolate and lemon. They are really good. Kind of like a candy after a meal.
You will be OK and things will get better. When the weight starts coming off you will be so glad you have gone through this.
I am nearly 7 weeks out and down 39 lbs. and 2 clothing sizes.
Good Luck.
