 Lora,
If I remember correctly, you're a therapist too, right? Here's a suggestion - see if you can do a contract position with anyone in your area. Even if you're looking for something with benefits in the meantime, at least it'd be some income to offset all the bills. I'd never had problems finding work since graduating - knock on wood - and that may be due to living in the metro DC area, but I compare this field to others and it's like we're never lacking for crazies. Granted, contract work never paid what I'm really worth, hence why I started my own practice, but it also meant more steady work and a more reliable paycheck.
There may be people with private practices that have just a temporary surge in their caseloads who may be open to a short-term employee or clinics in your area that would be open to a contract therapist. Keeping focused on thinking outside the box will at the very least take your mind off cookies....

Good idea.  At least it would be income (other than the VERY part-time private practice work I currently do) in the meantime...  although it might not pay much more than unemployment!  Being in a larger metro area definitely makes it easier to find jobs, which is why I may have to suck it up and endure a long daily drive.

Just FYI the past 2 contract jobs I had paid $35 per session. If you suppliment your PT PP work with some extra agency clients, you might push the threshold over what unemployment pays. Also look into PESI as they're always looking for pros to do CEU lectures. If you're remotely experienced in any of the new modalities they'd probably contract with you to be a presenter. Just a thought....

I'm very sorry to hear you were laid off.
In November I was laid off from my 20 year career with McGraw-Hill Companies.
When I took the job more than 20 years ago I thought McGraw-Hill this will be forever.
I started looking into weight loss surgery right before I was laid off.
I'm 56 years old and decided to have the surgery so I would get healthier and have more energy to look for a new job.
I got a wonderful separation package which allowed me to have the surgery and keep my insurance until August.
I will see what happens if I don't have a job by then.
For now I am very happy with my decision.
I thank you all for the interesting posts here.

I'm very sorry Lora, I hope you find a better job, quick as can be. Can you put in the paperwork to defer your school loans at least?
