Hi All!! I am having LapRNY on May 13th and my father wants to send me and my son plane tickets to Florida (where he lives) for a couple weeks after surgery (probably after my 2 wk followup). Is it ok to fly then?

I'd check with your surgeon but some people do.  Some fly to Mexico to have surgery, then fly home a week or two later.

Should be no problem at all! Many folks fly out of country to get their surgery and fly back just a week later.

Make sure you bring plenty of water and some protein shake or ready to drink protein (like Isopure) to stay hydrated and well.

Warmly,

I flew home a week after surgery and then flew to Arizona for vacation a month after that.  As long as things go well you should be able to fly with no problem.

I will be flying just one month from my surgery date of 3/1. My doctor already gave his blessing.

I think you will be fine.  Just know ahead that airports are horrible places to try to find good things for us to eat and plan on bringing what you will need.

You'll do just fine. I had my surgery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and flew home exactly a week to the day after. About 7 hours split between 2 flights. Just make sure you have something to drink at all times, because I didn't and I thought I would die.

I have flown many times since my surgery. You can pack protein powder in ziploc bags and they will go through security just fine. However, no liquids (such as water bottles or ready to drink protein drinks) can go through security so you will have to buy a water on the "other side" of the TSA.

Be sure to stay hydrated and have your protein mix at hand.

Pack your vitamins in a day-by-day pill container. No need to take all the bottles.

You can also scope out a Vitamin Shop or GNC at your destination, and get your protein there. But still - have at least a few pre-measured portions at hand in case you are delayed.

Check with your Doc.  Mine had a no fly for at least 6 weeks.

Might want to check the fine print of your travel insurance though. Some have clauses that disqualify you (even if you have paid) if you have surgery within a certain time of your flight.
