Hi,
I'm 5 days out from my RNY and I keep getting the chills on and off over the past 3 days; pretty often each day.

Just curious if someone knows why and if this is normal post-op.

Thanks for your thoughts.

With a couple of months after surgery, you'll feel cold all of the time. This is very common with post ops. But on and off chills at this time, maybe coming down with the flu? DAVE

I am ridiculously cold since surgery quite often. I'll have it 74 in the house and still freezing. Sometimes I have to just crawl in bed to heat up it seems. I also am getting hiccups when i eat, and runny nose at times when i eat as well. Its just weird. none of these things happened before surgery and Im sure it sounds weird when I tell people that, lol. And I am not sick no fever etc.

I think that I would check your temperature and let your surgeon know as well.  It may be just the changes your body is going thru right now.  But I would hate for it to be an infection and go untreated.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I went through a time when my internal thermometer was just broken.  I was hot, I was cold, I broke out in a cold sweat, I couldn't get warm.  I never ran a fever and it finally went away but I'm sure it was from the surgery.

 Hi,

I found that I had some chills as well, not often and not sustained, but I had them. I don't know if it is a normal process or not, and have not thought to ask because they did not last long.

Hello,

Thank you all for your posts.  I haven't had as many on/off chills today, so maybe it will be stopping soon.  No, I haven't had a temp.  When I would take the temp it was either 97.7 or 97.6 or 97.4.  I spoke to my surgeon on Christmas Day, yesterday, and he said it was normal, as is the night sweats I wake up to in the morning the past 3 days.  Hopefully that will stop too.  I feel much better though knowing now that others have had the same side-effect as I with the surgery.  And, yes, I use to be hot all the time and now I need to keep myself dressed warmer.  If that is my only side effect....then I'm happy! :)

Thank you all again for being so kind in responding to my post.  It has been most appreciated!!
Wishing each of you a blessed weight-loss journey.

I am only two weeks out but I can definately relate to your dilemma!!  I am used to always having cold hands and feet but since surgery they are just cold as ice all day no matter what I do to warm them.  Even under 4 comforters I am freezing...even shoulders and thighs....seems like all my body can do is keep my core warm.  Must most definately be a surgery side effect.  : )
