YES!!! One of the nurses asked me what my pain was like and I said giving birth to my child was a walk in the park compared to S.O.D or Pancreatitis! As soon as I went into the ER (Rolling around, moaning, sweating etc) they immediately hooked me up to fentanyl...While that made me a bit loopy it still hurt horribly. They ended up giving me Valium and Morphine and for 3 days I didn't want to eat, move or do anything but lay like a corpse in pain in the hospital room! My Liver enzymes (AST/ALT and Pancreatic enzymes) were off the scale.  For the next 3 weeks I pretty much forgot anything. They ended up putting a feeding tube in my remnant stomach to feed me and for a future sphincterotomy.

Good luck, it is an awful pain.

Warmly,

Jackie E.

I know I'm resurrecting this from a while back, but I wanted to share with you that NOTHING I've felt related to my "self diagnosed" SOD is anything like anything to do with my RNY.... it's highly distinct....,. though if you are newly postop and feel any ANY pain.... call your surgeon ASAP... and share your concerns with him before he ever operates. The more communication you have the better.

My concern about the SOD issue preop was met with a shrug and a "eh," from the professionals. As I watch my diet, I do okay.... but the attacks are meddlesome!
