Iceburg Lettuce... A do or a don't?

Iceberg has water. Water has value. Although other greens have more nutrients, it is inaccurate to say iceberg has no nutritional value. It isn't the best salad green but it is not completely devoid.

Sorry to sound terse but as a person who studies food that is a pet peeve.

You should not eat iceburg lettuce because it's not real lettuce... it's a sorry excuse for lettuce, an imposter, the redheaded step child to real lettuce.  If it's not green, it's not lettuce.

Yes, I freely admit that I'm a lettuce snob.

I prefer organic mixed baby greens. So much tastier and so many more yummy nutrients.

But then again.... that doesn't really answer your question does it?  Sorry. Just had to do a bit of a rant about lettuce.  That's what we Lettuce Snobs do from time to time.

Carry on...

Um...meet me at PF Chang's for a RUMBLE!!!!

Cuz sorry...only iceberg really works for those lettuce wraps. I've tried them with Boston (too flimsy, cannot withstand heat of filling), romaine (too damn long and I don't like the stem in the middle for lettuce wraps) and let's not get started on the spring mixes. PF Chang's lettuce wraps laugh in the face of spring mix!

But on a regular basis, for my salad bowl, I like the salad mix from my farmer's market that has everything from spinach to arugula to dandelion greens in it. YUMMY!

I am a lettuce snob.  but - I have to agree with you - for the wraps - only iceberg can do... any other - too wimpy...  I tried to make that with different things - but it was no-go.

The only one that I could appreciate was the large leaves of Belgium endive - but then I made endive small boats - not wraps...

Yeah I never meant to come off as an iceberg enthusiast. I am not. But it isn't a worthless food. It has water and it is roughage so there is SOME value for folks who simply like it better.

I personally like spring mix cuz it's pretty. My food has to be pretty.

I only relayed there was no value in iceberg lettuce for that is what one of my doctor's told me.  I'm not a medical professional...just someone trying to help another.
