Iceburg Lettuce... A do or a don't?
I have heard that we can not eat iceburg lettuce after RNY. Have any of you tried it and if so what were the results? Did it make you sick?
I am a little over 6 weeks out and have been able to tollerate pretty much everything. I have had spinach with no problem... I have had a few bites of salad made with iceburg with no problems but wanted to make sure I am not doing any damage that I may not be thinking of.
On the 4th I had 1/2 of a turkey burger with a leaf of iceburg on top and bottom to replace the bread. Did not have any trouble with that either.

Julie, hi there! Things are going I am losing yes. But as far as everything else I am still on the liquid basically Isopure water to get my protein in, and now I am lucky if I can eat a can of creamy soup a day. Other than that nothing else, I tried drinking milk last night and I had to dump it out, I just couldn't drink it the smell. And thanks for thinking of me....
I've never heard that about iceburg lettuce, or any lettuce specifically. I think once you're cleared for lettuce it's all allowed.
I don't do iceburg at all....period! To me it's bitter and nothing more than crunchy water. My NUT said there's barely anything nutritional in it. I really like the dark green and red lettuces that have some nutritional value to them. I like to use the full leaf Romain for wraps and in place of bread for all kinds of things.

Yeah but further out that is a GOOD thing. I can eat a lot. Once I eat my full meal of protein and good calories, sometimes I am just not full. Eating something with little or no calories in that instance is a good thing!

While I am firmly on team "Spring Mix salad," I do love me a wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon! I can eat Iceberg fine. I know others that can't. So it is an individual thing.
It is NOT devoid of nutritional value like some say. It has tons of water. Water is good for you.
