Yup low potassium sometimes does that...But at times I have it too Miss Nancy   We should probably try 1/2 bananna or tomatoe before bed.   Or at dinner.  Try it and see if it helps.  Take care Patty

Low potassium is not something you should wait on.  Go get it checked.  Foot cramps at night are a sign for me that my potassium is low.  I'm taking a prescription potassium and the cramps stopped after the second dose.

Gosh I hate toe cramps. I take potassium and mag citrate to prevent them. Bananas cause me to dump so that doesn't help me. I find both at www.puritanspride.com. They frequently have buy two get three free deals. And sometimes free shipping.

are you getting enough water?  dehydration can cause cramping ..it can also be a symptom of untreated thyroid disease (hypothyroidism)

I get those cramps often too, mine are caused by low potassium.  it is not your age, i always get these cramps for years.

I will have to check into that as well, I always thought it was if my feet got so cold they would cramp, because that is mostly when they do especially in a swimming pool.
I have started a blog all of my own for this journey.  Please follow me at www.digitalsheep.org.

You will not see this one on labs.

Magnesium is something we can add without fear of adverse consequences. Potassium makes me nervous.

But NOT mag oxide (unless you want to poop regularly), we use Magnesium Citrate pills, not the bowel prep.

It's also wise to have on hand:
Hylands Leg Cramp pills
Hylands Leg Cramp cream

They only intervene, whereas the mag cit will help prevent. Mag cit becomes part of your routine.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.  Looks like I will be hitting the local vitamin/health food store again!  Have a nice night (or should I say morning).

Mine use to do that really bad.. when walking.. shopping they would cramp and toes curled.   I kept popping potassium pills thinking low on that.  Turns out deficiency in vitamin D can cause that also.  Surgeon checked it last year and it was low.  Taking a suppliment Vitamin D3 now and has not happened.  Have surgeon check your vitamin D levels.

I have only found one store locally that carries Mag Citrate tablets, and I can tell when I've been without them for a couple days when I run out...the other night I was up hobbling through the house 3 times during the night with awful cramps in my shins and feet. I also take prescription potassium.  I agree with Vitalady, potassium is not something to take willy-nilly. Working on a cardiac floor, I have seen bad things with both hypo- and hyper-kalemia. Ask your doc according to your labs.
