Foot Cramps and Toes Curling

Not sure if this has ANYTHING to do with weight loss, however, I wake up in pain with my toes and foot cramping.  I have to hop out of bed and walk around in order for it to subside.  Also I noticed that my toes are curling more.  Any reason on why this could possibly be happening? I turned 45 this month, is it just from getting older????  Vitamin deficiency????    Too much elliptical?

Low potasium will sometimes cause that.  Have you had labs lately?

I had lab work done around February - no problems.  I am scheduled to go again in July.

Foot and leg cramping are often caused by lack of magnesium, potassium, and/or calcium. I used to get horrible attacks in the middle of the night, and would take a magnesium citrate capsule, eat a banana, and drink some water.  Also put some calcium citrate in there if you have it.

Good luck--I know how horrible these can be.
Thanks Lynn.  I have been doing a better job getting in my calcium citrate pills, however, I stil dont' get them in every day. Have to be more dilligent about downing those big darn pills.  Thanks for the input.  At least the pain is not as bad as the charlie horses that I would get as a kid.

If you can't take your calcium EVERY day you need to look at the other options besides the big pills.  Bone loss is not something you want to mess with.

There are the Citrical petities that are much smaller pills (you have to take more of them).  And there are at least two forms of powders:  UpCalD and a powder that Bariatric Advantage makes/sells.

I mean really.  You MUST take your calcium.

Most people think potassium, but in us the culprit is often magnesium.  A good fix is magnesium CITRATE, which is the most bioavailable (mag oxide helps with constipation as it is not very bioavailable).. but capsules of mag citrate is not the easiest to find.

Magnesium deficiency can also lead to headaches and migraines.

Old thread, but I wondered.... is it a potential deficiency if the cramps are always on one side only? My three middle toes (not pinkie or big toe) on my right side have had excruciating cramps two days in a row.. The toes are pulled down so only my pinkie toe and big toe look and feel normal. Today the cramp moved up in my calf and even my hamstring.

I take Magnesium Citrate daily to help with constipation.  I, of course, can't find it locally but my mother buys it for me via mail order.
