I WAS taking 2500 mcg twice a day for 6 months.  my 6 month B12 was over 2000.  I have backed down to 1 2500 mcg daily.

my surgeons recommendation was 2500mcg weekly, however i wanted to take that.  so i take, at a minimum, 1250mcg twice a week.  However, i do feel better (i think) taking it more or less daily.  My bloodwork is within range either way.

I've been told many times that B12 is not absorbed well (if at all) through the digestive tract, so taking B12 pills is probably not going to do much for your body.  Sublingual or, if sublingual is not getting it (and may not for some), shots, are the ways to go.

RNY 6/16/09 - Last weighed 10/27/2011 weighed 151 lost 52 pounds  66% toward personal goal  of 125, six pounds from unofficial unpretentious goal of 145lbs......basically very happy.   boo-rah, RNY!

The ASMBS recommends 350-500 mcg sublingual daily.  Now, we store B12 in our bodies so we don't have to take it daily.  You could take 1000 mcg every other day, for instance, of 2500 mcg every five days.

It MIGHT be harmful to take too much.  Depends on who you ask.  But it would be a very big dose to be harmful.

Hello again

I was talking to yesterday about vitamins and then I had to get off the computer and go to a work function. I still have some questions about vitamins. I am almost out and getting ready to purchase more so I want to be sure to have my facts straight.

I think you need to get your levels checked to see where you are at.  Weekly I doubt will be enough.  Daily usually works better.  You would have to take an awful lot to get toxic. You pee out any excess.  Ideal is a level between 1200 and 1500 but it can go up 2000.
