Calling all "innies!" Do you have problems with bellybutton infections...

This just started for me and it's circling around my TOM as well.  It's because of the hormone changes according to my OB/GYN - still annoying and gross.

This sounds strange, but try an OTC yeast infection cream - we used to have women use it under their panni for infections  - they are generally yeasty.

Just want to say thank you for posting this!  In all my 43 years of being obese I never had a bb infection until a couple of months ago (under my panni and boobs is a different story though).  I was so grossed out when I got a bb infection and thought no one else had this problem.  I'll try these solutions.

Use the yeast infection stuff to clear it up, then do what my PCP told me to keep it from happening as often.  Put one drop of rubbing alchol in your belly button after shower.  The rubbing alchol with evaporat any water left stuck in there.  Then once it is dry, place a dry cotten ball into your belly button to avoid any sweat gathering in there, Change the cotton ball out 2 or three times a day.

This has worked like a charm for me, I haven't had an infection in my Belly Button for 3 months now after following this routine.

I had horrible problems with my belly button and in January I had to take a course of Leveqin( spelling) antibiotic for an unrelated sinus infection.  After I finished the meds my belly button had cleared up and a patch on my thigh in the crease had cleared up.  I wonder if the meds killed off the bad fungus????

Yup, the same kind of funk I can get under my panni as well. Most likely as others have pointed out is a yeast infection - oddly Gold Bond Powder works the best for me.

Even if you are not planning on plastics - or at least right away - it's good to get these breakouts documented with you pcp

Yeah I know what you are talking about sadly. I clean it out just like everyone is saying but I daily after a shower put diaper cream in and around my belly button with a q-tip. Its really the only thing that saves me. I've had this issue since I had major abdominal surgery that cut through my belly button 11 years ago. Imagine having two really deep belly buttons that get these kinds of infections.
ALMOST there !.

Ditto on the alcohol on a q-tip and then after dry, use desitin! I also found that desitin works on the panni! Cannot wait for the day I can have enough saved for plastics.

I get them too!  Ever since I had my daughter 2 1/2 years ago!  I use a little athlete's foot cream, twice a day, and its usually gone in 2-3 days!

I usually get the off brand at wal-mart.  Its much cheaper and does the same thing!

Hope this helps,
Jess

Fortunately, it doesn't happen too often to me anymore, but how I keep it at bay is to make sure that I dry my belly button out really well after a shower and every so often when I think about it, clean it out with a q-tip dipped in peroxide.  My PCP told me to do this years ago and it has really helped.  I always know when I'm over due for a q-tipping because I'll have this funny odor wafting up to my nose.  That stench is unmistakable!
