What protein powder tastes good mixed with decaf coffee?
I want to try using my new expenisve blender to make a decaf coffee "frapacino". What protein powder do you suggest? I am limited for in store purchases since all we have in town here is GNC, but I am more that willing to order protein powder online if it will make a great drink.

Oh boy! Well, for the first 6-7 months after surgery, every single day twice a day I had Isopure dutch chocolate protein in my decaf coffee for a mocha frappucino. I always added a lot of Splenda because I like things sweet. Sometimes I upped the ante by adding a little unsweetened cocoa powder, or a sugar-free syrup to alter the flavor. Standard vanilla was the best, but sometimes I used hazelnut. I like it because it has terrific stats, blends well and is a nice, clean chocolate flavor that still let the coffee shine through. It didn't become super-thick or anything. Isopure is pretty gross by itself in my opinion, so be aware of that. I just like the balance of the protein in the coffee (and the stats, which are terrific.)
Some people on here are really into Click. I had a sample of it pre-op before I knew how to mix a good protein drink, and I didn't like it. Haven't had it since surgery. The stats aren't so great - kind of a lot of carbs for a protein drink - and I'm happy without it, so I don't plan to try it.
I've had Matrix Perfect Chocolate in decaf but was unimpressed. It was too milky/chalky or something. The coffee and protein weren't balanced.
Early out I used Nectar Chocolate Truffle for this. It's not as good in coffee as the Isopure, but it's decent.

Having RNY was probably the best thing I've ever done for myself.
Approx highest weight: ~350. Highest measured weight: 338. Surgery weight: 297. Lowest weight (for 5 minutes): 169. Current weight: 209. Goal weight: ??? - maybe 180-185, which was my maintenance weight before the regain.
Chocolate! Unjury chocolate mixed in milk and added to coffee is one of my favorites for a quick out the door workday breakfast.

My favorite is Isopure vanilla from Bariactric Eating, but I've used Pure Protein from Walmart. GNC's brand in the chocolate carmel is also a favorite.
If you can order online, your choices are endless. BE has a brand called Inspire that is delicious. They are a little more expensive but quality protein and taste so good.

My standard morning shake is like a frappe. I just use plain, unflavored protein powder, but have also used chocolate EAS protein powder from Target. I doctor it up enough that you don't taste the protein. I actually do an assembly line and prepare seven containers of this mix on Saturday mornings so I don't have to measure everything out each day.
1 scoop protein powder - chocolate or unflavored
1 heaping teaspoon instant coffee crystals
1 level teaspoon Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder
1 package Truvia or Splenda
1/2 teaspoon instant sugar-free chocolate pudding mix
1 heaping teaspoon Metamucil Clear fiber powder
1/3 cup instant non-fat powdered milk
2 calcium tablets, crushed to powder
To crush my calcium tabs, I just put seven of them in a baggie and hit it a few times with the smooth side of my meat pounder. Two crushed tablets was equal to 3/4 teaspoon of powdered tablets for me.
I add my ice to the blender container, buzz it a few times to shave the ice finely, then pour in my mix, a dose of powdered probiotics and add a cup of water. Buzz a few more times and it's ready to go.
Edited: I don't put my probiotic powder in my pre-made containers of protein shake mixture because it has to be refrigerated.

Pat,
Where do you get your powdered probiotic? I was taking tablets before my sugery but haven't taken any since. I want to take them because of a study I had read about greater success with WLS when patients were on probiotics. Is that why you take them, or do you have another reason? I'm 10 days out and still on liquids.
Thanks,
Rhonda

Rhonda,
I get my probiotic powder at a local health food store. The brand I've been using is Bluebonnet. It's flavorless in my drink and only takes 1/4 teaspoon per dose. My first bottle of probiotic powder tasted really, really nasty. Then I tried the probiotic pearls, but they didn't work well for me.
The best quality probiotics will be in the refrigerated section at your health food store. Be sure to check the dates on the bottles and keep them refrigerated once you get them home.
Although I do prepare several days' worth of protein shake mixture in advance, I don't put the probiotic powder in it until I'm ready to put it in the blender since it needs to be refrigerated. To protect my "investment" in a $30 bottle of probiotics, I've learned a little trick to cut my losses if I forget to put the bottle back in the fridge. I shake out a couple of teaspoons into a separate container -- I use an old baby food jar. This is the container I take out of the fridge each morning to add my dose to my protein shake. If I forget to put it back in the fridge, I've only ruined a small amount and not the whole bottle.
