Steri Strip Allergy?

DId you of you have an allergic reaction to the steri strips?  If so, what did you do about it?  Mine are not supposed to come off for another 4 days and are very itchy and red under and around them.  It is not an infection - no drainage, no fever, not painful, and not swelling.  I am calling my doctor this morning, and hope that he doesn't say I have to drive to Atlanta!  I also have an itchy rash all over my sides, stomach, and a little on my back.  My doctor just put me on Benadryl for that and said it may be an allergic reaction to the Roxicet.  That sounds odd to me.  I have never heard of an allergy to a pain medication and I haven't taken it in days.

So, has anyone else had any experience with this?

I did not have thius, but I know some have.  If you search for steri strips in the search feature (top right) you will find several previous threads discussing this.

I was like that too, and mine also took four weeks and steroids to clear it up.

I was red all over... my scalp, my ear canals, my face, my genitals... my throat was swelling when they finally got control of it with the steroids.

I have to say... the "itchies" as I called them sure took my mind off of food and having been all rearranged in my innards.

I did and got some sort of cream to put on it.  Didn't really seem to help much, but the rash disapeared in about 3 -4 weeks.

Maybe they can just call in a presciption for you locally?

Hmmm...I never thought of this.  I am allergic to the plastic medical tape, and even the paper tape caused me be break out, although not nearly as bad.  Bandages will cause me to have a reaction as well.  I guess I'll have to discuss this with the hospital staff and have benedryl ready just in case.

I hope you feel better soon.

I have an adhesive allergy and the same thing happens to me.  When I had my surgery I told them no steristrips as I have an adhesive allergy.  My doc used surgery glue instead.  Worked awesome and no break out or rash - I would ask for the glue Lori.

Yeah, I have an adhesive allergy too.  And they always try to tell me "oh no, it's hypoallergenic!" and then I break out.

In terms of the other rash, narcotic pains meds are notorious for causing itching, and it can in fact last for several days after you stop taking them.
