Alright awhile back I had posted here and on the cpap forum about my problemm with the extremely dry mouth. Found out that the pressure was too high right after surgery. Amazing!  And what was happening was the pressure was just forcing my mouth open.

I'm now 7 weeks post op, about 63 pounds down since surgery 70 total and just ran a week with an auto pap at home.  My pressure is now at a 7 where as before it was at 12.

So you new post ops with CPAPS.  Think your having issues, contact your DME provider, they should let you do an auto pap trial at home, typically for free, they fax the order to your doc, the doc signs it and away you go  zzzzzz.

Couldn't find my orginal post, so i thought I'd just go ahead and add a new one.

With a pressure of 7 did they discontinue your CPAP altogether?  If not, you probably will be able to kick it pretty soon!  Good Luck!

This is good to know, I already have an auto so hopefully I won't have to much problem after surgery.
Thanks for sharing!

With a 7 I would not stop cpap.  I think that if you get down to 6 or 5 then yeah.  I am sleeping so much better, finally!!  Sleep has been such an elusive thing for me in the past. It still isn't the greatest and restful but it is better.

Thank you so much for posting this.  I am a day over 3 weeks out and for the past week I have been getting a really dry mouth in the middle to the night.  I have lost about 55 pounds total (20 pre-op and 35 since surgery).  I have been wondering what is going on???  I will call my Pulmonologist/CPAP provider on Monday!

This message board is sooo helpful.

They decreased my pressure but they also added a chin strap so my mouth wouldn't open.   I look SOOO sexy with it on.

20 pounds lost during two week pre-op diet.

I got mine after WLS and have a pressure of 10. THey added a chin strap, which I never use. I concentrate on keeping my mouth closed.
I still don't sleep well, ( chronic insomnia) but is a bit better.

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.

Yeah they wanted me to do a chin strap and I did with a head band, but that didn't matter. I still was opening my lips.  See never had an issue with an open mouth before.   So if the mouth thing is new, then it might be a pressure issue, or allergies I suppose. Anyhow, might want to check it out.

Wow, I'm so glad you posted about this.  I'm at almost 3 weeks out, and dread using my cpap now.  I never knew a mouth could get so dry!  It never happened prior to surgery.  I doubt I even leave the mask on for 4 hrs a night now, because of the dryness. My current setting is at 9.  I'll call my provider tomorrow.  Thanks!
