Anyone had problems with Glucerna? (Might be too much info for some)

Hi There.

I'm post-op a week and 3 days. I have had constant nausea until they switched me from Carnation Instant Breakfast to Glucerna. I've been on Glucerna for about 36 hours which has helped with the nausea. About 6 hours ago I started having bad diarrhea. I've had this 3 times since 1:00 pm today. I'm wondering if I'm having a reaction to the Glucerna or did I pick up a bug some how?

I would love to hear anyone's thoughts.  Thanks.

Suffering,
Robyn

I found Glucerna was all I could tolerate for the first week and 1/2.  I did have diarrhea after I drank it.  I found that if I only drank half at a time, that did help somewhat.  I did eventually get better after you start the soft phase.  I've actually become quite oppisite in the last week.
I've finally started my new journey!!!!!!!!!!!

That stuff can make a baby post op VERY sick - might I ask why you HAVE to have it?

I could not tolerate the Carnation Instant Breakfast so my surgeon's office reccommended glucerna. Do you have another suggestion? Thank you.  :)

YES!  Throw that high-carb crap in the back of the fridge and find some low-carb protein powders or drinks - or dump anything with LACTOSE in it for a while.

Carbs and milk sugar can really play havoc on your gut - and make you dump harshly - especially this early.

Hit a vitamin/health store and look for low-carbs and high protein...

Isopure is a good choice...

The Alpine Punch is awful... it was the only flavor they had. I just can't win, this is my 6th type of protein shake and they all make me sick.  :(

i certainly don't know it all, but the glucerna doesn't look that bad to me.  it has more carbs than might e desirable, but they don't look astronomical to me, and as much as you are struggling, if you can keep this stuff down, i don't see how it can hurt as a temporary solution.  i personally would rather have diarrhea than nausea.  i would just like to see you get a chance to stabilize post-op and not be miserable, you might get a little strength and then your body might get a little more resilient.

what do your instincts tell you?

RNY 6/16/09 - Last weighed 10/27/2011 weighed 151 lost 52 pounds  66% toward personal goal  of 125, six pounds from unofficial unpretentious goal of 145lbs......basically very happy.   boo-rah, RNY!
