Yeast Infections- Common after RNY?

Have any of you noticed that you get yeast infections more often after RNY?  I'm just asking because I haven't had any in a long time and now, all of a sudden, I'm getting them constantly.  I'm using Monistat, but it seems to help only temporarily at best.

I've heard that eating yogurt every day helps with that. I haven't been eating any dairy products unless they are lactose free because I'm lactose intolerant.  Even yogurt gives me diarrhea.

Just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.  I don't understand why I'm getting yeast infections when I'm not eating anything that has yeast in it.

I haven't had any. With all the changes postop, I wonder why I haven't.

I think yeast infections start up with the conditions in your vagina stray from normal. If you were on antibiotics because of your surgery that would wipe out the good bacteria that keep the yeast at bay normally, as well.

You might try taking some probiotics pills. I bought a box at Walmart and just started taking them last week.

Dr. Oz on Oprah Radio was saying it's better to take them in a pill or capsule form because the spores survive the stomach better that way (assume in a non-RNY person). But you can get them in a liquid form.

Thanks, Patti.  I actually haven't been on any anti-biotics in years, but it might be worth it to try those probiotics anyway.

I feel terribly ignorant - I've never even heard of probiotics.

Yeast infections are not caused by eating foods with yeast, rather they result from an inbalance of the body's own bacteria.   You might try probiotics- see Melting Mama's blog today for a review of a new protein shake with probiotics.

is it possible that it's not yeast?

have you been to the doctor for a culture?  there are other infections that mimic yeast.  if treatment with OTC monistat does not work it's recommended you see the gyn.

No, and I'm very sensitive.

I think you are probably run down and not resistant enough to "invasion."   Make sure you are getting your vitamins in.
