Need some advice about "dumping"... gross... I know..
I've not had a gastric bypass... but I did have to get my gallbladder out last week. I'm now experiencing the "dumping syndrome" which my surgeons nurse tells me is similar to that experienced by gastric bypass patients.
I have been on a quest to get healthy this year, which does include weight loss... but I didn't want it to be like this. I've lost almost 8 pounds in just over a week, because everything I eat goes right through me. I'm now at a point where I don't want to eat anything because I know what's going to happen.. and where I realize it's TMI.. it doesn't just happen one time with each meal. It happens multiple times and even when I can't go, my stomach is all cramped up and uncomfortable..
Hoping some of you can give me some advice on how to cope... how to get through daily life without being miserable and without starving to death. Any advice is appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Dumping with rny will not leave you with chronic diarrhea unless you continue to eat too much sugar or fat...most rny patients don't even dump at all..so its a crap shoot (pardon the pun)
good luck!

My sister went through the same thing after she had her gall bladder out. She suffered for almost a year before she ask the dr for help. She now takes a prescription drink that tastes like "Tang" I don't know the name but it instantly took care of the explosive bowel problem.
Don't settle until you get the answers you're looking for. If one dr doesn't know, another will.
Good luck!

Are you talking about having a foul, frothy, fatty bowel movement??? If so, that is NOT dumping. That is caused by eating too much fat. You no longer have a gall bladder, which is where bile is stored. Bile is required for dietary fat absorption. Without the bile storage capacity of the gallbladder, you are now not able to absorb fat and that is going straight through.
If you decrease the amount of dietary fat, you may experience a decrease in the poopage.

This is an uncommon, but not unheard-of, side effect of gallbladder removal. It may get better with time. It's often the result of a post-op increase in the amount of bile acids entering the small intestine continuously (b/c of no more gallbladder) and causing cramps and diarrhea
Your surgeon should order some additional tests to identify exactly what is the matter with you. If it's due to bile acids, taking oral bile acid sequestrant powders or tablets (Questran, Colestid or Welchol) will bind the bile acids when they encounter them in the gut, reducing their irritant effects.

I had the same problem when I had my gallbladder out several years ago. I didn't have it as bad though, it was only certain times and I never knew when it was going to hit me, which was hard when I ate out. I never knew what would set it off either, because some days it would bother me and some days it wouldn't. I know it's no fun, so hopefully it will get better soon.
Maybe I should clarify... I eat a very low fat diet. I've been doing very well with that since January, have lost almost 75 pounds. Since my gallbladder came out, even when I ate nothing but sugar free jello and dry toast, it still happening. Doctor says it's common and can last from a week, to a month, to forever... no telling...
I was really sick after having my gallbladder out three years ago! I was only able to eat rice for the first couple of weeks and had to eat a very low-fat diet for many months post-op to avoid nausea and diarrhea. I lost a LOT of weight (which was good because I was obes). Eventually, after a year or so, I was able to expand my diet. After a couple of years, I had unfortunately expanded my diet so much that I regained all the weight I had lost PLUS more (which eventually led to my having RNY on 6/8/09).
