How much mcg of Biotin is needed for hair loss? I take 3000mcg but read somewhere I can take up to 6000mcg. Is this correct? I'm almost 3 months out and my hair is falling everywhere!!  I'm panicked!!

I take 1000 mcg/day.  Needless to say, it hasn't helped!

Seriously, almost everyone loses hair during the rapid weight loss after surgery.  It always stops after a couple of months.  The reason all sorts of interventions such as biotin are popular is precisely because people freak out once the hair starts falling out a few months post-op, start doing something (such as taking biotin) and then the hair loss stops on its own several months later.  Many people decide that the intervention was responsible.

Hello,

I agree with the above post, nut the answer I got during my nutritional counseling was 120mg a day.

Be sure you are consuming 75 grams of protein daily, as protein supplements, then "eat" the rest of your protein.
I go for 100mg of protein daily.  That is when my hair quit falling out.

I also switched to Aveeno shampoo and conditioner and my hair is coming back in nicely now.

Best Wishes!

Biotin is a "B" vitamin, so you can take as much as you like.. I take 5mg.  It's water soluble, so you will just pee out what your body doesn't need.  There is no way to avoid the hair loss.. it's gonna happen, but sufficient protein intake and keeping up the biotin will help it to come back in strong and beautiful.. I lost hair till about 9 or 10 mths out.. then it all came back in..and is as nice as before surgery!

HappyGrl, what do you eat/drink to get 100 grams of protein daily?

Thanks!

My own opinion is that it's damn hard (not to mention expensive) to eat 100 grams of protein daily, so I've never ever tried.  I aim for 70-75 grams a day.  Some days I get in 60 or so, others somewhat more than 75: it all evens out.

People need to understand you can be doing everything "right" taking all your vitamis, take biotin/zinc/iron whatever, get all your protein and more in.....and you can still lose your hair.  Some are luckier than others, I hope I am one of those =)  Reading this site long enough I see how many people have done everything to avoid the hair loss, spent a ton of $$ and it still happens.

It grows back, my hair needs a little thinning anyhow, damn curly mophead that I am!
