Does weight loss slow down after the 1st month with the RNY Surgery???

Hi Gang,

I'm curious to know if your weight loss slows down 6+ weeks after surgery?  A few weeks ago, I was in the hospital because I had an absess around my stomach.  For a week, I couldn't eat or drink anything but fluids.  In the hospital, I gained 15 pds of fluid.  I am still trying to get the fluids off.  I have started working out this week, and I do 30 minutes on the ARC Trainer, and 30 minutes on the treadmill.  I go for 2 miles at least 5x a week.  I get to incorporate weights next week.  I am stuck at this weight and over the course of 2-3 weeks, my weight has not changed.  I'm not stressing about it, but I am alittle concerned because it doesn't add up to what my doctor said.

My doctor told me eat the Zone protein bars to assist getting in my protein along with soft foods.  I eat these yokeless noodles because they are made out of egg whites and 2oz has 8 grams of protein.  I stew them in my chicken to get a double whammy of protein.

Am I missing something here?  I'm drinking water, why am I stuck so soon after surgery?  Any feedback you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Jewlz

Get used to it, honey!  Most of us have posted the exact same missive at the same time you have!  I'm 18 months post-op now, but I swear that tracking my weight loss over the last 18 months often seemed like I was watching paint dry!   I would stall every 3-4 weeks for 2-3 weeks or longer.  Even so, I've lost 150 pounds over the past 18 months.  You'll do well, too.

This is normal.  The first month is the fastest loss you'll ever see.  Things stay pretty constant between months 2 through 6.  Then things slow down after 6 months depending on your body and behavior.

As for the pasta.  Remember that we're trying to keep carbs to a minimum at this early stage, so even though that pasta has protein, the carbs are probably out of control.  I shoot for 40% protein, 40% carbs and 20% fat for my overall calorie balance.

Good luck
Pam

Yes, things slow down after the first month.  Here are my stats so far.  My highest weight was 339, but at pre-op I was 311...

Month 1 (9/2-10/2) 30 pounds
Month 2 (10/2-11/2) 18 pounds
Month 3 (11/2-12/2) 18 pounds
Month 4 (12/2-1/2) 14 pounds
Month 5 (1/2-2/2) 12 pounds
Month 6 (2/2-3/2) 9 pounds
Month 7 (3/2-4/2) 12 pounds
Month 8 (4/2-5/2) 9 pounds
Month 9 (5/2-6/2) 10 pounds
Month 10 (6/2-7/2) 8 pounds
Month 11 (7/2- now) 10 pounds

Right now I'm at 161 pounds with 2 pounds to go until my BMI is under 25.  Life is grand!!

Thanks everyone.  The noodles have 3 grams of carbs, particualary because they are made out of egg whites.  I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't doing anything wrong.

Thank you so much for the encouragement team!  I really need it :o)

This is pretty common with all of the surgeries - our bodies have to adjust to what we've done to them, so they slow us down at about 5-6 weeks out and say "YO!  Chill out!"  Your weight loss will definitely start back up again.  You're totally normal.
