Back in the Hospital... again
I have been in the hospital for practically 4 months; since my RNY. First I had the 2 leaks and 2 abcesses that required 2 seperate surgeries to repair. I managed to get pulmonary edemia, pneumonia, and a uti. Then I got home and had to come back when my pouch and intestine built up so much scar tissue that the opening was only 1mm. I had to have a revision to fix that at 6 weeks out. He has to completely remove the 1st pouch and create a new one from part of my esophogus and remove the intestine and create a new one from some of the bypassed intestine. Then, 3 weeks ago, I developed VRE, cDif, a urninary tract infection, bladder infection, and kidney infection. I feel like I've been through hell and I'm starting to regret having the surgery at all. I'm so tired of starting at these same 4 walls... no flowers, no ballons, no books or sudoku, just these ugly blue walls, day in and day out. Thanks for reading my rant! I needed that!

That's a hard way to lose that 81lbs! You have my sympathies, I'm so sorry your surgery turned out this way. Do you have family or friends that can bring you some books or puzzles? Maybe the hospital has a patient library? I know the one my Dad was in so long had a little cart that came around every day with stuff like that.
When do they say you'll get to go home?
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Thanks Michelle! We actually live over 3 hours from the hospital, so no one comes to visit. As for a book cart, I haven't seen one in the 8 weeks I've been here. That would be a really good idea though! Maybe I should suggest it to the ladies auxillary or some volunteer group like that! Thank you all for your kindness! Definatly makes me feel better!

I'm sorry you are having so many complications. My guess with vre and cdiff you are also in isolation as well. Are you well enough to get up and walk?
Have you asked the nurses about books? Do you have internet access?
I work with patients who are often in the hospital for a long time. It's hard. Hang in there.

I am so very sorry to hear that you are going through all of that. I wish I lived close too as I would come to visit. I also thought, maybe call a local church. I am sure that they would be more than happy to come visit and bring some books and/or puzzles for you along with a nice friendly face. Just a thought. I hope you get back up on your feet soon! Hugs.
"I'm starting to regret having the surgery at all"
STARTING? Heavens! I can't believe you aren't *****ing and complaining and demanding a re-do by now. You've been through the wringer and still just beginning to regret? I've seen posts that people are missing food and seeing commercials on television that cause them to regret surgery(okay, so this was me)! Your complaints make them look like whining babies!
I'm so sorry you've having problems (gawd, that sounds trite when your "problems" are huge). Call the dh and have him bring you a poster and put it on the wall...and change that poster daily..have friends bring you something to look at. If I lived close enough, I'd bring you flowers..You poor thing...scream for help!
Things will get better. It takes time. Think about here and now for now but know that things WILL get better.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!
