I drink up until I eat - my nut gave me the clearance after 90 days. I also enjoy chili, soups (mainly lentil and split pea) and Bear Naked Protein Cereal w/milk. I've been approved for all of this and not going to worry about it. I dont however drin****il 30-45 min after I've had my meals. Might be a contradiction, but these few things Im not going to worry about.
Due to the fact that I am so underweight, my surgeon has encouraged me to drink with my meals. And I do..for over a year now.
Drinking with meals washes the food on through and I get hungry, sooner...in order to eat more often. Has it worked for me ~ nope, still underweight..LOL
As far as stretching the stoma out...the food being pushed through is not solid anymore ~ you had to chew it up to get it down.

My nutritionist allows us to have soup and ceral BUT.... when having soup you are to 'eat' all the broth first... THEN the bits, or just spoon out the bits (or drain off the broth if you are at home).
Same with ceral. You can 'wet' the ceral with milk to make it mushier/moister... but either spoon up the milk first and 'eat' it THEN the cereal, or drain off milk before eating.
Having food suspended in liquid and eating all together is considered drinking while eating.
That said, the program I'm with says you can drin****il you start eating... do not drink WHILE eating, and no drinking for an hour afterward.
