I am in a mood today.  So---  that being said....

I think it is a bunch of poppy**** that some programs do this lovely presentation that 'we are doing all of this to help people'.  'We want people to be healthy'.  I think the reality is that they do it for one reason only----BOTTOM DOLLAR BABY!  They do it because RNY costs little up front but is a huge return for them.  PUSH THE CATTLE THROUGH THE DOOR.

My surgeons office will not even MEET with you before you have jumped through every hoop and have had every test ordered and completed by your PCP.  Yeah, they have informational meetings.....

I will just say that most of the informational meetings were a waste of my time---ONLY because of the type of person I am.  I did so much reading and research prior to my first 'information' meeting that I could have ran it and provided THEM with information.

My nut---a waste of my time to be quite frank.

They might want to give out intelligence tests first to see which program you belong in.  I think it is almost MALPRACTICE to shove people through these programs that clearly ask the stupidest questions I have ever heard.

Nutrtion was rather a minor part of the informational meeting.

Like I said---I am in a mood today.

I think the one thing that I found terribly disturbing was that all these 'meetings' are at the convenience of the staff.  Do you think they might actually put these follow up post-op or even pre op mandatory meetings at times that were convenient to the working people???  No.  2pm in the afternoon!  And when asked if they might move the post-op meetings to 7pm to help those that work or have families---oh 'that would make a late night for us'.  DUGH!

Grrrr....cranky today.  I need chocolate.

I saw a nutritionist at my docs office and got a notebook with info in it, but most of what I learn comes from this group.  My friend, who saw the same surgeon, takes Flintstones.  I'm not. I will take centrum chewables.  And iron, and calcium and so on.

Just talked to my surgeon this very minute and he said that Centrum sucks (that was what I was going to take) and that he's had good results with 2 Flintstones.

I couldn't agree more with most of what has been said here. Thanks to Jup for starting this thread.  My program is also a Center of Excellence and also one of only five programs in my state judged as superior by HealthGrades...and while I believe that my surgeon is very competent I have been disenchanted with the information provided by his support staff.  But I do not blame them. Because of the economics of health care, and the dominance of the physicians - I can only blame the physicians who own the practice.  It is their job to make sure that the staff, including the nutritionists, provide comprehensive and up to date information in a readable and understandable manner.  I received a series of disjointed "pieces of paper" with nutrition and supplementation information scattered throughout, with some information being contradicted a few pages later.  I too have learned a great deal from people on this board, but I have still been frustrated by the piece-meal nature of the information I have managed to put together. It would be great if there was one objective and well-organized place to go to research vitamin, supplement and nutrition guidelines in a systematic fashion. Actually, Pam, you should think about setting up a web site like that. I, for one, would even be willing to pay for the information if I could get it in an orderly fashion.
I eventually did, BTW, get a second nutritionist to help me come up with my own guidelines and schedule - fortunately my insurance is covering that.
Okay - I am done venting on this pet peeve.

Have to comment on the omega 3 capsules. I thought that we would not absorb the omega 3 capsules after RNY. They are in oil and the capsules are enteric coated. I order Coromega from Vita-lady as I thought I would absorb it better. I need it for my arthritis. Now, it tastes nasty and is very expensive. I would much rather take a capsule if it will do me any good. Anyone know for sure?
