I am pre op and got some IDS liquid flavored whey protein. It is in a ial of 3.1oz and has 42grams of protein in that small liquid amount. My question is, does anyone know if this type of protein supplement is ok post op? I really  like it much better than the milk based proteins so Im hoping this is ok.

It's a waste of your money.  It contains hydrolyzed collagen protein, an incomplete protein which your body cannout use to build its own proteins.

There may be 42 grams of inessential amino acids in a protein ***** of New Whey, but virtually all of if cannot be used by your body.

Think of your milk-based (or soy-based) (or egg-based) proteins as essential medicines.  And hunt around some will taste better than others.  But any of these are superior to what is, nothing more than liquid Jell-O.

Yeah, what Steve said.  It's better than nothing, but not nearly as good as the other supplements (and pretty pricey for something you can actually USE so little of).  There are lots of people who use them here, though, and claim they are "fine" with "good labs", but according to both my PCP and my RNY surgeon, it is extremely difficult to determine the effects of a protein deficiency until it reaches a critical point.

Have you tried the Syntrax nectar proteins or the Oh Yeah premade shakes?  Lots of people who don't like the whey-based powders like these and they have high quality (high bioavailability) protein.
