Question about adding TVP to oatmeal

Morning Squid,

I just made oatmeal with TVP this morning for breakfast.  Since I use steel cut oats that have to cook for about 20 mins, I add the TVP dry.  If I am using quick cooking oats, I rehydrate the TVP first.  I do that with the other things I use it in too.  If it is something that cooks for a while, I add it dry.  If not, rehydrate first.

Good luck, the stuff is great and can be used for just about anything.

Mornin' Squid!

I mix the oatmeal and TVP together dry along with a little extra Splenda, then add boiling ho****er to it.   Be sure to mix it well and for a while before eating to give the TVP a chance to soak up all the excess moisture.  I also add some Power Butter (nutritionally enhanced PB) and cinnamon.  Tastes like a cookie I swear, complete with chewiness!

The texture might feel funny to you at first and TVP is very, very, VERY fillilng, so tread slowly.

No. No author.

In my past lives, I have been a graphic artist, typesetter, electronic publishing instructor, SW Quality engineer, seamstress, and custom cake and cookie baker/decorator.

Now, that is not to be confused with my previous lives, but that is another post ALL together. LOL

Many have told me that I should write the story of my life, but its so out there, no one would believe it was real!!!

Thanks for the kind words, though. I believe laughter is truly the best medicine.

I add dry TVP to the top of my yogurt instead of granola for extra crunch along with the extra protein!

I use 1/4 cup of TVP and a packet of oatmeal.  I add 8 oz. of skim milk and microwave.  it is very tolerable and gives me a breakfast or lunch that is over 20 mg. of protein.

I use the Quaker Instant Oatmeal and just add  2 Tsp of dry TVP in and then cook as usual.

1/3 cup instant oatmeal
1/4 cup tvp
1 cup soy milk
microwave three minutes (and stir in between each minute) . Watch the last minute because the power of your microwave might boil it over. I hate when that happens.

You can also add applesauce to it or lower the oatmeal to 1/6 cup..I did use protein powder in it for a time but who needs 45 grams of protein for breakfast? Depending on the TVP, you can be adding 12 grams for a 1/4 cup or 22 grams for a 1/4 cup. Fearn soy granules is 22 grams for a 1/4 cup so that's what I use.

Then I put butter buds and splenda (or equal) on top...If I add applesauce I put cinnamon on it too.

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!
