Question about adding TVP to oatmeal

OK, I'm setting myself up here, I know, but. . .

I want to add TVP to my oatmeal.

Do I soak the TVP before adding it to my cooked oatmeal?

Do I add the dry TVP to my oatmeal before I cook it?

Do I just look at the TVP package on the counter and hope the protein makes it into my oatmeal?

I'm sooooo confused!

TVP is ???  I have oatmeal often, especially during colder months, for breakfast. I cook the 'quick oats" type of oatmeal longer than normal, about 3 minutes. I then add a generic whey isolate protein I've found. It mixes very well with the hot oatmeal. I also use the same protein with SF pudding, or mix with other foods. Although labelled as unflavored, no "unflavored" protein is completely without flavor. The one I use has a mild flavor of evaporated milk, and tastes good with oatmeal--I also add some Stevia also for additional flavor. Some proteins "clump" when added to hot foods, but not the one I use, which can also be used in baking. I talk about this on my profile story and blogs on my profile page. DAVE

Unless you have lactose intolerance issues, then whey protein isolate is the best form of protien you can use for maximum absorption as a post op. DAVE

Thanks for the expertise, Dave, but I don't want to add protein powder.

I want to add TVP.

I just bought this too, but haven't used it yet. Will be interested to see the replies, and to hear how you like it and what other things you mix it with that you like.

Kristy, if you look at Nik's previous postings, she has quite a few recipes that make use of TVP.

I'm pretty sure she and Shari have talked about how they mix it into oatmeal, but because it wasn't in the topic line, I'm unsure as to how to search for it.

What can I say? Its Monday, friggin' cold, and my brain is NOT working at full capacity (which is significantly less than most LOL).

TVP is great, a fun product to use, but not a magic bullet.

That said - I add it straight to my steel cut oats while they are cooking. I've even done half and half. Just play around with it, you'll find what you like.

Oh, and I also add ground flax meal, chopped raw nuts, raisins, and yes protein powder. Maybe one of those, or maybe all of them.

Thanks much. I have to go pretty bland right now, but these are some things to keep in mind for the future.
