How the hell is it I am still a size 14?

I think 5'5", 160lbs, and size 14 is right on - probably because I'm 5'5" and was once a size 14 at 160lbs.  I was very hourglassy at that weight, so I needed clothes that would accommodate my wide hips and butt.  Now I'm about 207 and a size 20, maybe an 18 in jeans.  I have a friend who weighs about 210 at just 5' tall and she's a size 14!  Yeah, at five feet zero inches.  However, she has very heavy legs that don't taper as much from thigh to ankle.  Maybe she has more muscle or something, too, but I'm thinking she's carrying a lot of weight in her legs that's not riding on her ass and making her a larger size. 

Sizes are so fickle. At 18 years old I was 5'4" and 130lbs - size 9

at 35y.o. - 5'4" and 130lbs - size 6 in most jeans and size 4 in levis

I think it is meant to confuse us!

 

I think as long as the clothes look good on you , it dosn't matter what size.
but I have to admit, it sure is nice not wearing clothes with an x on the tag!!!!!

Who knows.   

FWIW,  I'm close to your size... 5'4" (if I strand up really straight), and 164 pounds (today, anyway)... and I have pants/skirts that are 14s, 16s, and even 18s (although the 18s are all 18 petites from a ******* manufacturer that makes petite waist sizes smaller than the corresponding misses size waist), and I even have a size 12 pair of pants that fit in the waist and hips but are too snug for comfort in the thighs.  My tops are either L or XL, either a 16 or an 18, but I still have enormous boobs.

I'd say a 14 is about right, but I know people who are almost my exact height and weight and somehow wear size 10s!  WTH?!?  I wanna know where they shop!

I know for a fact that over the years they have changed the sizing. I was going through some of my sisters old clothes. She was murdered in 1974 and my mother put her clothes in a suitcase. Mom died 10 years ago, but I just now had the heart to start going through things. When I pulled out the jeans, I thought for sure I would see 00 or 1 . My sister at the time of death 35 years ago was 4' 10" 93 pounds and 19 years old.   I could not believe my eyes when everything  had a size 7 on them.  compared them to my daughts size 5's. Her 5's are SO SO SO much bigger than the 35 year old jeans. I also remember in high school wearing a size 13 in DITTO jeans and I weighed 130, Now I'm 160 in a size 10. go figure.LAURA

That sounds about right,I am about 5'6 and weigh 164 and wear a 14.I do have lots of skin on my belly.I have often wondered the same thing.I have been a 14 for quite a while.Is there something we can do to slim the tummy down,besides spanx,lol!! At 6 months out i am on target.
