May I suggest reading the book called "WLS for dummies" you can google it on where to buy it.  It's a good book and has many food choices on what to eat after WLS. You can cause serious damage to your pouch and even die if you don't eat correctly.  Good luck to you on your journey and please eat safe.

I think you need to calm down.  I think I can speak for all of us that we want you to seek your nutritionists help immediately so you are not part of that 20-30% statistic that fails WLS.

I am sorry that you have been treated with disrespect here and even made fun of. There are no dumb questions, and I am glad that you asked it so that you can get some answers. You had the surgery to help you make life changes and lose weight. It was dangerous and drastic and you need to give it every opportunity to work. When I was 3 weeks out, I was still on full liquids, I then did pureed 2 weeks and soft 1 week. That is just what my doctor recommended I know that not everyone does it the same. I would encourage you to limit all fast food and white carbs if you can to give yourself the best shot. One thing we learn after surgery is that if we take responsibility for our food including preparation that we take it more seriously. When you are a new post op your nerve endings have been cut, so you will not feel full. That is why it is important to measure things out. Just because you can eat more than a 1/2 a cup of food does not mean you should. Please follow up with your surgeon and your nutritionist. It sounds as if you may need a little extra information. We get so much piled on top of us when we have the surgery that we do forget some things. I hope the way you have been treated will not deter you from asking other questions. Peace Nicole

Alveta,

Being from the Dayton area like you are, I am very curious what kind of nutrition counseling your surgeon's office put you through prior to surgery.  Please understand, this is not a slam on you at all ... but I have encountered quite a few patients from that practice that were a little "lost" nutritionally after surgery.

I guess I say all of this to help others understand that sometimes the guidance your doctor's office gives you (or doesn't give you) pre-op can make a HUGE difference.  I am in no way pointing fingers at this particular doctor, but you are not the only person I've encountered from there that really had no idea what to be eating (or not eating) during the early phases post-op.

I was blessed and had great nutritional counseling and education pre-op, plus had a huge number of post-op RNY acquaintances I could turn to at work for even more guidance.  I know my experience was the exception, not the rule.

Sorry that people really jumped on you here, but please try to understand that their initial intentions were pure.  They were really trying to help you understand the severity of the situation and make it clear that you needed more nutritional guidance pronto.  After hanging around here for a few months, I've seen what can happen when people don't follow dietary guidelines and I sure don't want to see it happen to you or anyone else.

If you have questions, fire away by PM.  I'll answer as best I can until you can get some better guidance from a nutritionist.
