Dumping VS Throwing Up vs Foamies

I don't eat sugar and not too much fat (maybe low fat mayo).

Sometimes when I eat too fast I throw up ... no fever, no chills, no tired feeling ... I just feel better afterwards.  I am still having a hard time getting in all my  protein bu****er goes down fine.

Is this dumping ... I thought dumping was something different ... and it only happened after sugar?

So what is what I do called?  Foamies????

Can someone please  explain the difference between
dumping, foamies, and just plain old throwing up

Everyone is different. For me dumping is more like diarehha and I am feeling really sweaty. I might as well dit in the bathroom for awhile. Foamies for me is when I have this gurgely feeling and I have to keep swallowing. Depending on what causes it (mostly meat) I take a papya tablet or 2 and it will go away. Or I will laydown for a bit till it goes away. Throwing up is just that throwing up which happens to me when I have too much sugar so I stay as far away from that as i can.

Good Luck

I may not be losing like I want but at least I am alive...

If I eat to fast, or something really dry ( like chicken sometimes)  I get the Foamies.  My mouth wil water and salivate like crazy, and I have to go to the toilet to spit for a few minutes.  Sometimes I will puke if I eat the wrong combination of things, like I mixed sf fruit punch, and sf lemonade( it sounded good at the time) and  I horked  that back up.  I have only dumped once, and it was the most awful thing ever...my heart was racing, I felt really shaky, and that continued for a while even after I threw up the offending graham cracker.  Ugh...anyhow...That's how my surgery affects me...hope this helps explain the differences a little bit, although not everyone is the same.

Generally speaking:

Throwing up -- Reaction to eating too fast (food not small enough to travel THROUGH the stoma) or the reaction to eating too much that it won't fit in the pouch. Or just the reaction of something not agreeing with you on any particular day.

Dumping -- Reaction to either sugar or fat in your diet. Often involves nausea, heart palpitations, feeling unwell, sweating etc. Sometimes involves throwing up or diarrhea.

Foamies -- A "red flag" indicating that you may very well throw up, mouth gets full of saliva, dry heaves.

At least that's my perspective. Since I really don't do any of the three, it's by what I've read not by experience.

If I eat too fast or don't chew well enough, I get a "stuck" feeling and feel 100% better if I dry heave or throw up- that would be the closest to what you were describing and I wouldn't call it dumping at all. (PS- I rarely throw up since surgery- 3x's in 4+ years and I was pregnant with morning sickness all three times- I dry heave now- nothing or very little comes up) "Foamies" is what I would call if something was "stuck" but I couldn't get it up- watery mouth, feeling like you want to throw up but it won't come up.

If I "dump" (liquid type sugar is my biggie- like syrup or honey) I get the sweats, nausea, chills, sudden desire to sleep for a week (think of the way you feel after a huge Thanksgiving dinner- that kind of sleepy). Severe cases could cause loose stools, dry heaving and/or vomiting. Not a pleasant experience if you haven't felt it yet.

Hope that helps

Thanks all. I guess I am still eating too fast ... maybe I will need to take a baby spoon every 4 minutes instead of every 2 minutes. ~m

Hang in there and slow down. You are in the experimental stage. I still get it but there is always a reason. Usually I waited too long to eat and did not chew well or ate one bite too many. Some foods just never agree with me but even that will change off and on. This far out I am grateful to know my surgery tool still works!!!!

For me these are all stages of the same thing.

If I eat too much sugar the first symptoms are sleepiness, then the "foamies" (I used to call it spitting before I came here and learned the lingo). The next phase is nausea, heart palpitations and the desire to die (jk). Depending on how much sugar I ate, it will either subside after about 30 minutes or progress to the next phase - puking. As bad as that sounds, I usually feel better much faster after puking the junk up.

So there you have it. My take on dumpin'.
