Did i read somewhere that some PAMPRIN  is ok to take??

The one I have has

ACETAMINOPHEN               500 MG

PAMABROM                            25 MG

PYRILAMINE MALEATE       15 MG

Are any NSAIDS?                     I see my surgeon this week and i am seriouly considering asking for the lowest possible dose of pain meds,        this month has had me in bed with such pain for 2 days.

Nowadays there are several different formulations of both Pamprin and Midol, so it's definitely important to read the label for its ingredients.  Some of the formulations DO contain NSAIDs (either aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen sodium).

The particular formulation you mentioned:

ACETAMINOPHEN               500 MG
PAMABROM                            25 MG
PYRILAMINE MALEATE       15 MG

should be OK after RNY, because it contains no NSAIDs.  HOWEVER, the only useful drug in this witches-brew is the 500 mg of acetaminophen (in other words, one Extra-Strength Tylenol).  Just taking drug-store generic acetaminophen would be just as effective and a whole lot cheaper.

"Pamabrom" is an obsolete caffeine-like drug which is included as a purported "water pill", but it's an extraordinarily weak diuretic: you can safely assume that it would have no effect on peri-menstrual fluid retention.

Similarly, "pyrilamine maleate" is an old, first-generation antihistamine that makes a lot of people sleepy.  Last I heard, menstruation wasn't an allergic reaction!    It was added to the formulation decades ago well before the FDA had oversight of these OTC drugs.  Because "nerves" and "tension" are sometimes symptoms seen with PMS, it was thought desirable to add a mild sedative to the mixture.  The problem was that there's no way to add an effective sedative to an OTC preparation, because all of them are serious enough drugs that they require a prescription.  So, because antihistamines make people sleepy, pyrilamine was added.  But making someone sleepy does not mean that such a drug has any effect on anxiety or "tension", and that's particularly true for antihistamines.

So, sure you can take this, but it's a waste of money.  Just take a drug-store brand of acetaminophen or Tylenol.  Granted, acetaminophen is nowhere as effective against menstrual cramps as a true NSAID, but that simply means that this version of Pamprin would be equally as effective (or ineffective) as plain old acetaminophen.

Well, I *am* still bloated.  I've only lost 4 of the 12 pounds I gained after surgery 12 days ago!  Given that I'm not overeating; probably more careful than before, I don't know why I'm holding onto so much water (PLUS, I already take a diuretic for HBP).  I guess the physical stress of hip surgery really does a job on your lower limbs.

You and my SigOtter, Ray really need to meet. He had his RNY in the end of April and is down 45 pounds, while the other men are down 100 at this point...and he too hovers a round a lot, and is also on HBP meds. Oh yeah, and he's pretty furry.

It'll take a couple more days, bu****er will leave you. We struggle to understand it all too, but are coming to terms with the fact that even as know-it-alls, as far as the body is concerned, we don't get to fully understand all its mysteries-- even though we want to!

Midol Menstrual Complete is essentially the same as the Pamprin formulation described by the OP.  The only difference is that rather than pamabrom, it contains caffeine.  Like the Pamprin, it contains acetaminophen (Tylenol) and pyrilamine.
