For those who had RNY, how long were you off work?  I have a very easy desk job and I don't want to lose too much time from work.  Thanks! :) Pixies

I'd guess 3 weeks.  I have a adesk job as well, but ended up back in the hospital for 6 days with double pneumonia  (so I took off 4)!  Wishing you the best of luck  - Lys

Morning! It really depends on how you do after surgery. I only took 1 1/2 weeks before I went back. I too work from a desk all day long. You just have to remember to get up and move often to prevent clots.  I wish you the best!  Debora

My surgeon insist on two weeks off regardless on your occupation.

I am 2 weeks out today from my surgery and just returned to work.  I feel great!  I actually think I could've come back some time last week and been fine, but it was good to have the extra time at home as I was adjusting to my new way of eating.

Hugs and Smiles,  Apryl :)

I had an open RNY on 2/26. I was in the hospital Tues-Fri and I took one more full week off from work. I was fine to go back after one week home (and remember, I had the open procedure, NOT the laparoscopy). You will do great ;-)

I had lap rny and went back to work 2 weeks later, I was ready about a week later  but did wait.  I drive a school bus, which is more mental than physical.

I had Laparoscopic RNY. I'm an ER nurse. My doc says 6 weeks off. I feel like I could go back now (2 1/2 weeks post-op)- but know my eating patterns and habits and what works for me needs to be more settled before I go back to 12hr shifts in a crazy environment. I guess time off depends on a lot of variables- the type of work yu do, was your RNY lap or open, what your doctor reccomends, how YOU are feeling and how your nutrition is.

Really? That helps, I haven't had surgery yet and am not sure how much support I need when I come home from the hospital. Anyone have  some guidelines ... other than joohncastaidi who may not be 60 years old like me :).
