Here's what's helped me: 1.  Tracking what i eat when I get those rare painful gas episodes.  Found out it's bready carbs that cause it more often for me.  What causes the problem may not actually be what you "think" it is. 2.  Believe it or not - eating something helps.  I chased a bad gas pain with a few bites of banana a week or two ago, and that was enough to get the trapped gas "pushed" away and back on track to where it wasn't hurting anymore.  It was the bad "up in the shoulders" side-stitch kind of gas pain, too.  If it's stuck, sending something in after it might help.  Ya never know. 3.  Move.  Do some yoga, jog in place, do a few jumping jacks - whatever gets the abdominal cavity to "wake up" again and get the pressure in the intestines re-set.  That's harder to do when you have the real painful stuff happening, but it never fails - I get set up to start exercising, and the gas starts wanting to leave :)  Murphy's law. I've never had to resort to gas-x or anything like that.  But I don't get the "bad" stuff that often - just rarely.

Beano has an ingredient that bothers some people, and I think it's a sythetic sweetner that's in it. Anyway, that's what I hear from my suppor groups.  Have you discussed this with your doctor? You could have a bacterial infection in your digestive tract too.  Gas is a common problem with RNY patients, but not to the point of being painful a year after your surgery.  You might want to get a stool sample checked for a bacterial infection, or at least run that scenario by your surgeon.  You didn't mention it, but are you having regular BM's or are you constipated?? If constipated, then daily stool softeners may releive your problem.

I take phazyme. It has more mgs of the symethlicone (sp). You cant overdose on the stuff. Take as much as you need until you feel better. Hot bath or a heating pad helps too. Carby foods give me trouble from time to time. I dont eat many carbs at all but when I do (whole grain of course) I get gas pains.

My walmart didnt have it for the longest time but just got it in stock. at the website above you can order a free sample. I have bought so many pills for my stomach problems that dont work that my linen closet looks like a pharmacy. Also, I take acidophilus, Milk thistle and on ocasion flax-fish-bogage pills. my list gote on and on. I am almost 2 years out of RNY and I have struggled. My weight loss is however great so I cant complain. Good luck!!

Hi I agree with you I had my RNY 11 years ago I still have issues with the gas pains I have so many meds in my pantry for my stomach over the counter and from my doctor. With me the gas pain comes at any time no matter what I do or eat I love bannas carbs don't digest well sugar certain dairy products make me sick I go into this phase where I start sweating and my heart rate get to beating very fast so I leave that stuff alone. But for anyone *****ads this I am glad I had the surgery I weighed 349 5ft 2 facing high blood pressure ,diabeties, high cholesterol . I don't have any of those health issues now. I had a small set back after surgery but weigh 234 that still is more than I want to weigh bUt I'm still working on it I have had 2 surgeries on my ankle it had to get around like I need to . But back to the gas problem I'm praying that this issue will get researched so the doctor will know what will fix the problem.

Please call your DR. I went through this for a few days with what I thought were terrible gas pains, hurt so bad. The pains would come and go. Turns out I had an internal hernia.   I learned the hard way It's always best to call your DR and not assume.

I wake up with tremendous gas. My bi pap machine is set too high. I am awaiting an appointment for another sleep study. Praying for a much smaller machine...or none at all. Linda

Hello Michael I just read your post. I have gas pains like no ones business. I had the GNY December 01, 2008. I'm down 70 lbs. Something else caught my eye on your post. You said you have stella abs. I just joined a gym to start toning up. Can you give me some ab suggestions to get my mid-section tightened. I know I may never have a six pack but anything will be an improvement from what I have now. Thank you in advance for your time.
