VIACTIV CALCIUM SOFT CHEWS

Has anyone used the VIACTIV calcium soft chews for a calcium supplement? I went to my 3 month nutristionist visit this afternoon and she suggested this, but I thought I would ask the opinion of fellow WLS friends their opinion on the supplement. Thanks! I am currently taking the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate 400mg per tablet and 4 a day, which is not a problem, but the nutristionist was really pushing the Viactiv soft chews.

Most surgeons/nutritionnists recommend you take calcium citrate - Viactiv is calcium carbonate.  Citrical makes a soft chew, just like Viactiv in chocolate and caramel that is calcium citrate.  (Thanks to Melissa for the info - mine just came today!)

Thanks for the information!!! I found it strange when the nutritionist that I saw today suggested that, and I went and followed up with my surgeon who I happened to have an appointment with right after the visit. He said that anything with Calcium Citrate was fine, and the nutritionist insisted that the Viactiv was calcium citrate. I am looking for a calcium supplement that is easily absorb but does not take 30 minutes or longer (4x a day) to dissolve like the Bariatric Advantage one I am taking right now. I am looking up the Citracal creamy bites right now!

I bought the citrical creamy bites after reading about them on here, because I could not get down the big horse pills I had. I love them!! My fav is the lemon ones. I bought them from drugstore .com, because they had the best deal at the time.. not sure about anymore tho!

I use these and love them... the calcium pills are TOO big and you have to take TOO many... my surgeon and NUT say they are just fine! Last time I bought the GNC version - they were much cheaper and just as tasty :-)

My doc actually warned against Vicctiv b/c it has hidden sugars that he has had patients dump on.  I user the Citrical Creamy Bites and get them at drugstore.com too.  Lemon is also my favorite but I am trying the caramel today. Goodluck!! Tara

I found some great calcium chews at GNC - ActiveCal in the caramel flavor-YUM-O!  They're $7.95 for 75 and you eat 3 per day.    Although they taste sweet they only have 2g of sugar.  They're easier to handle than pills. Lidia

I use these. My doc says that the diff in absorption is minimal. Some people can't tolerate them, so his feelings were if they are working for you they are fine.
