Nuva Ring users (TMI warning...)
This is for any of you ladies who are Nuva Ring users. Or anyone really. I've been having a heck of a time with birth control lately. I was on the pill, and back before surgery my OB/GYN changed it to a different type because I was having mid-cycle spotting. Really not that big of a deal, but somewhat annoying. But after the switch around March I got a lot of heavy bleeding in week two, and again in week four. She switched it again. I used new pills another couple of months... no change. two peirods a month. I think I've been on 3 different pills in the last five months, and nothing is working. I'm starting to feel anemic, and I called again the other day and said I was wanting to try to switch to either the Nuva Ring or the patch so I could get away from the oral type BC. They called me in a prescription for the Ring yesterday.
So after work I go pick it up, get it all in place, everything seems wonderful. I'm all excited about it. Go about my normal daily activities, cleaned the house, etc. late last night DH and I decided to officially "test it out." Great mind-blowing type test. Lovely. After, I get up to go pee in the dark. Then after that I decide I ought to check to be sure it is still in place. It isn't. I can't find the stupid thing anywhere. Not in the bed. Not on the floor between bed and bathroom. Not in bathroom. The only conclusion I can draw is the thing fell out when I was going to the bathroom and inadvertantly got flushed down the toilet. For the love of....
DH says that he thought he could feel it, so pretty sure it was in place during all the testing activity. Anyway, I can't reach my doctor now till Monday, and I don't know what to do! I called the pharmacy and the old man pharmacist literally laughed at me. He said he didn't know how it could come out without me noticing. I didn't mention all the testing, but honestly I don't know either. It is possible I'm a little less sensitive vaginally than some, as I had a vaginal birth defect and had to have some surgeries in there. But I don't think it is too unsensitive or anything. I'd have thought I'd have felt it. I keep rechecking, and it is definitely not in place. Pharmacist says he doesn't think my insurance will pay for a refill the next day, but I can call them and ask. OMG. He said we'd have to have separate bedrooms tonight.
So not only is this bad because I have no birth control for the next few days, and I have been messing about, which makes me wonder about the possibility of pregnancy. But it is extra bad because apparently I have such a huge hooha that stuff just falls out of there without me even noticing. Argh.
So has anyone ever lost one and not been able to locate it to re-insert? Or am I just special and extra blonde? Anyone know what you're supposed to do when/if this happens?
Thanks for listening to me rant and for any info anyone might have...

OMG, Kim, I'm sorry to say this but that is just too funny! I used the NuvaRing for months and never had that problem, but I know that the "ring" shape can break and it ends up being just a straight tube, then maybe it can come out easier without you feeling it? Maybe hubby broke it during "testing"?? (Tell him that, it should make him feel all manly).
Good luck!

I'm about to try that blasted ring for the first time today...great...I was already hesitant. Meanwhile my gyno mentioned having me get an IUD but to try this out first. I'm hoping for a positive experience. To be hones I had an incident (my birth control pills didn't seem to be working) and had to use Plan B (available for back up if you ask your pharmacist) because I'd rather be safe then sorry at 16 weeks out. It made me rediculously sick and I haven't lost weight and been on a munching frenzy since. I don't want to go through that again. In the meantime...the reason I brought up Plan B is that if you're concerned about something happening from all your "testing" there's something you can do before Monday...

Do you have a prolapsed uterus? I've heard they can slip out pretty easily if you do.
I don't have a prolapsed uterus I don't think... My GYN says I have a retroverted one though (tilted back). I also had a vaginal septum at birth which had to be surgically removed and the vagina sutured all together when I was 16 and it was discovered. Again, I don't think the surgery would have had anything to do with anything, other than I might have some scar tissue in there and not be able to feel the ring coming out maybe. I don't know if a retroverted uterus is the same as a prolapsed one though... maybe that was part of the problem?? I'm just upset because I was excited to try it all out, and now it is gone! I have a few BC Pills left from all the various ones I've been on, but I hate to take a day or two of an old pill that I've been off of for a couple of months now, and then switch back to the ring again on Monday. I just wish they'd given me two or three at once instead of just the one. It is very frustrating. I'm wondering if my GYN's office might be able to give me one as a sample or something that can replace this one till my next refill is due on the prescription. I'm so messed up. LOL.
