Update: I am twenty one months out and currently weight 168. My total weight loss has been 375 pounds with over 200 with the surgery. I had my panny removed in January. There are successful revisions from an RNY to a distal. I really have had no issues other than healing from the panny surgery. Due to nutrition and malabsorption I ran into some infections but nothing major. There is success with revisions you just have to work with it. Good luck!
I have had a revision to my original RNY to a distal RNY with a success of over 200 pounds lost. A lot has to do with how well your surgeon does the revision and how well you work it.
I have had a distal RNY revision. I've not had any problems or side effects. In fact having the revision my dumping went away. I think that is an individual thing and a fluke. I have never had diarrhea, gerds or stomach issues. I am very diligent with my vitamins. I do have a tendency to be more iron deficient. Not sure if that is the surgery or me. I take an iron capsule. I also take B12 injections twice a month. The standard vitamin regiment my surgeon requires. I will be out two years in September. While revisions overall has a poor rate of weight loss I have lost over two hundred pounds since surgery. You do have a greater malabsorbtion which will require diligence with your vitamins. I had a surgery in January for hernias and to remove the panny. I really struggled healing with the drain sites getting infected. The surgeon that did that surgery said it was due to the malabsorption and nutritional aspects. So beware if you have surgery eat well and keep ahead of any possible infections.
I am Stephanie. I had Gastric Sleeve in 2012. Only lost 67 lbs of my 100 goal. Shortly after sleeve, I stopped loosing weight, began having severe acid reflux, vomiting and found I had a sliding hiatial hernia. These complications and symptoms have plagued me for 6 years. My old insurance had bariatric exclusion. I am now with a new insurance, BCBS ppo and have been advised by a couple doctors to look into revision to gastric bypass. Stating this will help with the acid, repair the hernia at the same time and begin to loose weight again. I have 110 to lose.
My question is, can anyone refer an experienced bariatric surgeon in Southern California who does the sleeve to bypass revision? I have no other option but to travel, as my insurance does not cover anyone in my hometown of Bakersfield. I have looked into Los Angeles and north of me in Fresno so far. If you have a recommendation, I would love to hear it. Anything helps at this point.
Thank you

dr keshisian (spelling?) is in California.
My GERD developed after my VSG. I didn't have any problems with heartburn prior to my surgery. Thanks for your message. Hope things work out well!

A second surgery will not prevent you from making poor food choices. Whether you re-sleeve or convert to RNY, you will only lose weight if you eat appropriately.
Couldn't agree more!
Your first step should be to have imaging done to assess the state of your sleeve, to see if it was perhaps made too big or if it was stretched out. Then you can make a decision about surgery.
This is very important! Ask your doctor for a barium contrast or CT (or both) to assess where your sleeve is at. These tests will look at the shape and the capacity of your sleeve. I had several in 7 years and my sleeve, due to improper technique, is an hourglass shape. I believe this insight has helped me make a well informed decision regarding revision, not to mention, having GERD and a plethora of other conditions due to malabsorption/malnutrition.
Thank you so much for sharing! It's important to consider all possibilities. Just wondering, was GERD developed after the sleeve or did you have it pre-op? So glad to hear it's more manageable now with medication!!
I'm sure you will get to your goal weight. You've gone through so much! Warrior spirit!
I also live in Los Angeles. I was sleeved by Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Mexico. For my revision, I will be working with Dr. Stanley Klein, South Bay Surgeons (Harbor UCLA Medical Center). Would love to connect with you ? I work in DTLA, on BariatricPal as: freetobeme
Your story is so inspiring to me. I wish you all the best on your journey!
Wondering if you've had your consult and what you have decided? TY

I did a bunch of research but didn't see anything where it had been done to revise an existing WLS. I would suggest you talk to your doctor for more info.
