Not sure where to post this or if there is anyone who can help. I am in the process of trying to qualify for revision. I found out today that my ECG I have Sinus Bradycardia with otherwise normal ECG. I am now wondering if this will disqualify me for surgery? The resting heartrate should be no lower than 60 and mine is 58 so not terrible (if that matters). Any input would help ease my mind. Thank you!
Looking for any help I can get!
I had RNY twelve years ago and went from 363 to 195, but fluctuated most of the years from 220-240 but now I'm back over 300 and at a loss for what to do. Every time I lose twenty pound's I put back on thirty, I've had some good results with extended Whole30's and feel amazing while doing it but can't stick to that forever and for the life of me I can't seem to practice moderation. I'm either 100% clean or a human trash compactor. I feel like a total failure that I have put back on this much weight, in 2019 I did 120 days of Whole30 and was 245lbs, now I'm over 300 two years later!!
My original surgeon was Dr. Lautz in Boston, I went back to see him earlier this week and he offered me two options. Conversion to DS which would be done in two procedures with 3-6 months in between them or a bypass distalization.
From what I am seeing here people don't get great results with the distalization. But the thought of further reorganizing my insides is terrifying, Dr. Lautz stressed how serious this procedure and it seems drastic.
I'm 42 with a seven year old son and I'm scared to do something that will cause be to be sick and lose time with him. However obviously I'm not living my best life at this weight.
Has anyone had luck losing on their own after such a big gain?
Can you share your experience of going from RNY to DS, the good the bad and the ugly?
I've only just begun.. revised VSG to DS on 2/18....chose DS because it is the best option and needed for bile reflux. My sleeve was not touched during the revision, so recovery hasn't been horrible aside from nausea and gas issues.

My revision was approved because it was for bile reflux gastritis ... weight loss will come obviously, but there are other reason to explore.

I literally just had my revision to DS done Feb 18, 2021. I never hesitated. My main reason for the revision was bile reflux, but I had also regained from my low. The experience I had from the VSG gave me the confidence that I can overcome any issue that will come up.
Take a look at my YT vids.. my wife has 2 videos on complications from her RNY that are similar (malnutrition)...
My thinking is the DS gives me a tool that almost cannot fail. I?m much better at trying to eat the right things than I am trying to not eat the wrong things. The fact my surgeon did not have to re-sleeve me has helped with recovery so far.
Keep in touch and I will let you know what challenges come up..

I'm 8 years out from lap sleeve and went from 420 lbs at age 23 down to currently 266 lbs at age 31 My weight has hovered around 260lbs for the last 5 years and no change in excersize and eating has budged it more than 10 lbs. I consider this a big sucess but am now pretty sure its time for revision surgery to lose the last 80-100 lbs.
I'd like to hear results of being resleeved or DS. I've been doing research on endosleeve too but it seems less sucessful. I'm scared to do something as drastic as DS due to stories or malnutrition and needing to go to the bathroom a lot.
I also have a good amount of excess skin to be removed in the future but have no idea how much weight it equals to.
Brandi, you'll find most revision surgeons don't believe you failed but rather the surgery failed you. They will help you for sure..
I was 7 years post-op, and got a resleeve December 2020. In 4 days I'll be 2 months post-op resleeve. I'm down 25lb.
By year 7 post-op, I could definitely eat more, but worse, I had very little restriction. I felt hungry quite a bit. So, I got in touch with the hospital where I had my sleeve and the doctor wanted to know if I could eat a whole sandwich. I had no idea, as I hadn't eaten a sandwich in 7 years. I bought a turkey sandwiches from Starbucks, 2 slices multi-grain bread with turkey, cheese and lettuce, mayo and mustard -- and ate it all in one sitting. I was on an empty stomach, but I was shocked that it went down with such ease.
I had a barium swallow and it showed my sleeve had been stretched near the bottom. It looked like a tennis ball bulging through my stomach. And, I had a hiatal hernia. Why did I decide on a resleeve instead of other options? Well, I had such a great post-op after my vsg -- zero complications -- that I felt my body could handle it. And, I didn't want to do anything more invasive, but I did want to nip my regain in the bud. It was the perfect option.
On December 10, 2020, I had the bulging part of my stomach tucked in and the suture restitched. I'm 4 days away from the 2-month post-op mark. I've lost 24 pounds so far. I've got more restriction now, thankfully; not as much as I had with my 1st vsg, but definitely a marked change from the last 2 years. Also, I don't feel hungry, which is a very welcome change from the last 2 years. I can get almost all of my water in without a struggle.
I'm very happy with my decision, and ready to work my newly enhanced tool.
The only way you know you can eat so much is because you have been eating so much.
Sometimes you can't feel what's happening with your pouch is because surgery leaves scar tissue that keeps you from feeling much.
So eating only the size portions you are supposed to will help you. Also drink loads of water because your pouch gets water logged and doesn't let food leave as quickly.
Good luck on your journey.
