GREAT NEWS!!!!!!! I HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR MY REVISION SURGERY...5/17/18 IS MY SURGERY DATE..BCBS.KINDA NERVOUS...BUT EXCITED.
I have lost 38 lbs since surgery. My surgeon said that is not typical, most of his patients have lost between 15-20 lbs right after surgery.
I have had a Realize Band since 2010 and an considering a revision to Bypass. Going to see a surgeon next month.

Congratulations on getting your Revision. I've decided on getting the Sleeve too and am so excited to get my revision surgery. I have about 6 weeks of work to so still before it can all be submitted to insurance. Then I'll keep my fingers crossed that they approve it. I fit all the criteria so I'm optimistic but still worry. Your story is encouraging. I know after surgery is when the real work starts but I look forward to it. Thanks for reaching out!

My story is almost the same as yours: I used to be 255 pounds, the day of my LapBand I weighed 244 lbs, and my lowest weight was 165 lbs.
Then I moved to a different location, changed doctors, and started the road of fillings and unfillings. I went back up to 190 lbs and start talking about revision with my doctor, meanwhile I was doing all the tests my insurance required (almost the same thing when I did the band), and I gained a little more in the process.
The day of my revision (sleeve) on March 6th I weighed 198 lbs, everything was fine, and today, 6 weeks later, I've lost 25 pounds, so now I'm at 173 lbs.
I'm more than grateful, I spent months here reading all the stories, and people have said that when you get a revision, the weight loss process is slow. But in my case, so far so good. Fingers crossed!

Sorry, but I am just seeing this. The Revision Forum has become somewhat of an after thought here over the years.
Are you saying that you already have the DS and you need more malabsorption? I can't imagine that I'm reading that correctly. But either way, there is a DS Forum here on OH and you may want to head over there if you're still around. They would be able to help you the most.

Yes, I was told that with my band to bypass revision. At the time I was told, if there was too much scarring they would clean up the scarring and I could come back in 3 months after healing for the revision. Or if they felt they could create a sleeve cutting around the scar tissue I could opt for that.
It is for safety reasons. If the scar tissue is too thick the staples won?t hold and then you risk rupture which, of course could lead to death. A surgeon who is experienced with revisions will be able to determine this when they are in and make the call.
Luckily I was able to get my bypass, my roommate not so lucky. They spend 4 hours removing adhesions from his band to his liver and other internal organs...he ended up sleeved.

You will find people successful with the sleeve, but stats indicate 30% reflux....so 30% risk of needing a second revision....that is significant...what is your risk tolerance? I am curious that bypass is not an option...it is usually the first and best choice after gerd and is generally still considered the gold standard.
My one caution is that the band more often than not caused damage while it is in. Mine damaged my esophagus, it leaves scar tissue, can stretch the esophagus, adhere to organs etc. Generally until a surgeon goes in, they don't know what they will find. I strongly suggest you find and go with surgeon who has done a lot of revisions for that reason. I'm already concerned that there isn't anyone who does bypass? So if your situation dictates it is the best option while you are under, it isn't available to you. That would be a deal breaker for me. I already made one bad (shortcut) decision getting the band to begin with.
I travelled out of state to my revision surgeon, because he'd done hundreds of revisions. He was able to thoroughly explain the kinds of issues he could come up against and what the recommended course would be, so I could sign off on it before surgery or indicate my preference.
I ended up going with bypass at the very strenuous recommendation of my surgeon with sleeve as a backup should scar tissue prevent the bypass.
Luckily I got my bypass.

Yes, I still recommend the procedure. It's been 2 years and I have kept everything I lost off. I of course can eat more now and choices will always be a struggle but I highly recommend this tune up!
