Topic: RE: Overstitch Procedure to Possibly Help with Rapid Moving of Food?

Hi Kim!

Feeling better every day. I do have some stomach pain but I really think it's coming mostly from my ulcer. I do have residual pain from the procedure though but I'm at work my biggest issue is fatigue right now. I'm not eating much. Lots of protein shakes, soft food like mashed potatoes, applesauce, cottage cheese, avocado, but when I do it, it's not much. I do have a sensation of being full that I didn't have. So far I've lost 8 pounds. I think I've been I've been in starvation mode and haven't lost much in beginning. I'm expecting more once I feel I can start to get on my elliptical soon. Feeling good though...thanks for asking! Maybe talk to doc and get some more info to see if it's right for you? I hope so.

Hi Jen!

How have you been feeling? How has eating and drinking been for you (e.g. tolerance and amount)? Are you losing weight since the procedure? I am interested to see if this helps with holding food in the pouch and digesting it better but am nervous. I dont want to get it and feel worse.

Talk soon!

Kim

My doc told approx 40 lbs, but like I said above, it has recharged me to use the tool I was given 15 years ago with RNY. I'd like to lose 75 but with my age, 46, it's going to be slower. After my procedure, it was rough for about 4 days but I'm feeling better. I'm exhausted because I am not eating much. I am on soft foods, but my doc told me to eat when my body tells me too. I feel like I will be on soft for at least another week. It's been 10 days and my stubborn body is still holding on to every bit of fat because it's in starvation mode. I've only lost 5 pounds but know it will come off soon since I'm not eating much.

So glad you found someone. It will happen for you. Keep us posted and we can all be a support system for each of us.

I just had the Overstitch procedure. I'm only 10 days in but I've had heartburn because of it. It should go away. They also found a ulcer which I believe is contributing to problem of burning as well. They were able to tightening the opening and also tighten my pouch a bit.

hello your post spoke to me and it may be because i am so soon out of my revision - oct 1. but i have felt a bit more down then usual and more aggravated then normal. dont want to get out of bed etc but push myself to do so. i am on anti depressants but i am wondering if they may not be absorbing the same way as before. i am seeing surgeon today and i hope there will be a turn around. this is the medicine i have been on for about 5 years during the whole time had the sleeve so it might just be short lived. i am so glad your depression has been relieved. mine was too but i just dont want it creeping back in.

ok wow - that surgery is a part of my story too. i was scheduled to have that done at mayo clinic completely only for my gerd not any weight loss. i had my previous sleeve in 2011 in mexico (risky ) but i kept weight off by following meal plan and exercise. my insurance made us cancel my surgery though and start again with a barriatric approved center of excellence hospital surgeon. because they said technically it was a revision since i had a sleeve prior. even tho this was due completely gerd and i was supposed to have what i was calling a gastro jj (too hard to say and spell). so i had in on oct 1. going well so far no GERD!!!!!!!! YES. Lost some vanity weight 150 to 140 which had been my set point prior to menopause. ps with you on surgeries (sleeve 2011, mastectomy 2012, reconstruct 2013, hysterectomy 2017) . i havent started my major exercise routine yet - orange theory which is pretty intense and burns about 600 calories the amount i am taking in right now and involves a lot of abs. just walking. but so grateful gerd is gone. i am taking the vitamins which i didnt do before - there was no follow up program with mexico. i am glad in the end i got routed to the coe surgeon because there is so much support. i have gotten some great recipes and met some wonderful people. its hard to explain to people outside of this world what i had so i just tell them the gastro jj because pretty much that is wht it was for me and they dont need to know my entire history unless i feel close enough to share it. i would love to keep chatting with you thru your journey.

I feel the sleeve is a better option if it was a first time WLS. When it comes to having the lap band and then the sleeve I have seen so many times on here that folks have to revise to the bypass due to GERD/reflux/heartburn.

I myself wanted the sleeve after having the lap band, but due to the band causing me reflux/heartburn I decided against it and went with the bypass. I have been heartburn free since then.

Also from what I have seen most people have to have it done as two separate procedures due to some damage the band has caused.

I have to Thank you for giving me the official name of the operating procedure . Once I googled that name, I was able to find a doctor not too far from me. I have already requested an appointment. My question is do u really start losing good again?

I worry because I need to lose about 80 pounds to get my knees replaced. I've been on a1400 calorie diet since July 1 and really haven't list much. Maybe 28 to 30 pounds. I still need to lose the rest.

Thanks for your time, Kim
