May I ask why you had the feeding tube?

Yup, xiphoid process. Being morbidly obese does some crazy things to our bodies. But some of these issues, like the xiphoid sticking out, are natural parts of weight loss. It will go away once your body adapts.

I think your swallowing issues are something else.

here's an old thread on what I was referring to - the xyphoid process sticking out. Mine sticks out as well. Is this what you were referring to?

Question: Does anyone else's breastbone stick out since surgery? I had a hernia repair a year before my sleeve and then repaired again with my sleeve 3/2018 and then repaired again with my rny 7/2018. It's protruding out pretty far and I have still have problems swallowing so I was wondering if they might be related. Thank you ??

that is perfectly normal. You just may not have ever been able to see/feel it before.

just update here - kinda jazzed lost another 5lbs down to 135 which i feel good about since revision and most say they dont have much luck. my gerd is gone but dr has kept me on my meds for a bit longer. the meds diddnt work before so not sure if working now but following the directions. restriction is different feeling then sleeve and really depends on consistency of the food. its about 6 weeks post surgery and dont feel very hungry. i have to remember to eat and my husbands has been getting on my case about getting enough calories etc. i havent started exercise other then walking. i did get a peloton for my biking which i will resume lightly (per dr) end of Nov. i have to watch now to make sure i get enough fuel during this first two months so i am keeping it light for now.

Topic: RE: Removal of remnant

I had my remnant stomach removed with my revision in 2010, along with all of my stomach except the pouch. I was also told not to except much weight loss. However I decided to take advantage of my second chance and followed the post op diet to a T and lost all my excess weight and then some.

Now it is 8 years later and I have kept off all the excess weight. I have a lot of restriction and that makes it easier to eat like I should. As long as you follow the post op eating recommendations you should be able to lose the weight and keep it off. That is the key, though. If you continue to eat the way you did before the surgery you probably will continue to be heavy.

I never really experienced much restriction with the first surgery so having restriction was a game changer for me. I always knew that I needed to change my eating habits but until I experienced restriction it was always very difficult. Now it is still difficult but doable with the extra help.

I think you intended this for the original poster - I've never had swallowing issues.

Greetings Cat,

It's unlikely your protruding sternum is related to your difficulty swelling. Have you had an upper GI exam or endoscopy?

Feel better.
