Jen,
Sorry I am just getting back to you...it has been a busy holiday. The appointment went very well. He was very thorough and informative. I will have my EGD on Jan 9th so he can see everything....excited and anxious. Thank you for being so open and honesty about your procedure. I love the "changed attitude and being recharged"....that's 90% of the work! I have 40 pounds to lose ...and I'm going for all 40...lol. I will stay in touch and let you know what he says. Thanks for taking the time to reply....it means a lot!

You can eat around any surgery. Esting sugar and carbs - there is no surgery that would prevent you gaining weight when you eat that. RNY - only 30% dump from sugary items, and with work, even those who dump can learn how to eat just enough to prevent the worste dumping. And the more sugar /carbs person eats - the more body can get used to that. And crave that. I know. From experience.
The only way to maintain weight loss after WLS is by following good, proper diet, of dense proteins, followed by some veggies, and maybe little bit starches.
Unless you can change your eating - getting revision only can make you sick in a long run.
I had RNY over 10 years ago. When I eat dense proteins - I get restrictions. But carbs - I don't. I am a dumper, but over the years I learned how much and what foods I need to avoid to not get really sick. And in reality ,- even being very sensitive to sugars, there are not foods that are really forbidden for me. Probably the worst is ice cream.
I know eating sugars and simple carbs can make me uncomfortable, and it will make me gain weight very fast. So I try to avoid that. It is not easy. But it can be done.
Maybe getting therapy to find out why you can't stick to plan may help you?
I know I can be a stress eater. So I have different ways to deal with stress. And if "I need to" stress eat - I pick foods that don't cause too much blood sugar spikes.

Hello,
I had the sleeve in June of 2011. I lost a lot of weight very fast. I started at 330 and within a year was at 225. Now 7.5 years later, I am up to 315. I don't exercise. I eat whatever I want, almost as much as I want. I failed my sleeve. I think I stretched it. I am considering revision, but not sure if I should. If I did, I don't know what to revise to.
I think the sleeve wasn't enough restriction for me. I am addicted to sugar. With the sleeve, I was able to add sugar back into my diet so early on after surgery. All the weight came on so gradually. You'd never know I had WLS.
Any advice is welcome. Thanks.
I can't really comment on the rest, but bowel obstructions are pretty rare. And I kind of doubt the hernia would be back after five days. Keep us posted - sorry you're going through this!
For anyone *****vised from vsg to bypass BECAUSE OF GERD, do you know how many cm your pouch is or far your pouch is from the GE junction?
I understand one will not typically know this unless they have a copy of their surgery report.
That is great to hear... I know you just had surgery but I wanted to share with you a list of getting back to the basis that helped me lose my regain. I post this a lot and no matter what it really does come down to us getting away from what we know works. Me too LOL Stay in touch, I would love to hear how you are doing from time to time
Due to a personal tragedy in 2015 I gained and hit the 190 mark (after over 10 years of staying at goal). After several starts it finally clicked and I am back to goal losing 70 pounds of regain. Here are some steps that helped me and I hope they will help you too! You may have several starts and stops but don't give up, don't beat yourself up. IT WILL CLICK!!! Our tool works if we work the tool and get back to the basics.
Planning/Preparing
Remember when we were preparing for surgery? How many meetings, classes and such did we attend? We were told the more prepared we were the better our chances were for success. And they were right. Go through the house, car and work place and get rid of trigger foods. Stock up on foods that will keep you on track. I removed every bad carb/sugar temptation and replaced it with lots of protein, veggies, grains and fruits.
Journaling
Get back to journaling. This will help you identify when you feel like eating, stress factors and any triggers in your life. Once you identify these factors, this will help you put tools in place to keep you from eating. It became clear I was not taking time for me anymore. I worked my day job and then spent the rest of my time caring for my husband. It was easy to reach for fast, prepackaged food. Since I purged my home I have to eat clean as there are no other options LOL
Use a tool to track you're eating and exercise like Getting Started with Health Tracker. Once I started to track ever bite and drink it became clear why I had gained.
Goals/Rewards
Make a list of goals for yourself. Make them realistic and small. Some of mine were move more, purge all junk from my home, eat more protein. If you didn't make a Weight Loss Surgery bucket list when you first had surgery do it now. GREAT reminder of all the things you can enjoy in life after losing weight.
Food
In general, a long term post-weight loss surgery eating plan includes foods that are high in protein, and low in fat?, calories, and sugar. Important, vitamins and minerals are provided as supplements. (if you had a different surgery adjust this to your food plan).
Water
Water is our Best Friend. I have to say I never went back to pop or any bad drinks, however I was drinking tea like crazy. What is wrong with drinking tea? I was either using sugar or 3 equals and 3 sweet n lows per 32 ounce glass. I found once I started carrying one of the metal bottles of water to keep it cold I drank water all day.
MOVE!
I can't say enough about how key this was for me. The reason I kept my weight off for almost 10 years was no matter what, I kept moving. If I could not go to the gym I would walk. Grab a cart and walk all the isles at your local box store. I loved Zumba, bootcamp workouts, lifting weights. When I stopped, the weight started coming back. So for me I am starting slow to avoid injury by walking and using some of the workouts on my Demand TV. Find something you love to do and it won't feel like a pain in the *** to do daily.
Support
If it's an option "run" don't walk to a support group. Come here on OH daily for support and participate in one of the food threads. It helps you be accountable and also great ideas for food prep.
Keep me posted on how you are doing.

I have been reading up and trying to mostly listen but I'm in need to some help and insight. I had the sleeve in 2012, no complications initially and I was extremely happy with the results I did start to get some mild heartburn a cpupme months out. They put me on omeprazole and all was good as long as I was careful and didn't eat too close to bed as it would come right back up. The heartburn got worse and in 2015 I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, I had it repaired and it did seem to help my heartburn a little. EDG showed gastritis etc. Early this year I had an episode of extreme chest pain in the middle of the night and had an EDG showed inflammation in my duodenum but not much else. The pain was radiating to my middle back as well. Upped my meds, put me on more meds. Had a 24hr PH study which showed I was reducing a lot, 237 episodes in 24 hours. Was told only option bypass. Went forward with bypass on the 21st. Dr. Chae in Denver is my surgeon and seems to be well known and respected. He said their were two issues....first, I had a hernia (another) and a pretty large one, he said my stomach was protruding through my diaphram. He also said my stomach had a kink in it and that is where he made the cut. He did say the hernia may come back. I was pretty out of it and just wanted to go home and rest. Been drinking premier protein shakes and getting in my fluids. Last night, Christmas of course, I started to get pain in my upper left side. It was wrapping around my rib cage perhaps just at or under a bra line and radiating to my back. It hurt really bad. Got to the point that I took some pain meds and went to lay down. I couldn't not even lay on that side until the pain subsided. I thought about calling my surgeon but am seeing him Friday morning and really did not want to call on Christmas but it was excruciating until it went away.....perhaps got better with pain meds then went away an hour or two later. I don't know if it is the hernia that is back already (don't know how after just 5 days) or something being pushed into my diaphram. I dont know if it was maybe some gas (here's hoping) but I'm terrified. I have been reading sad stories all day about hernias and bowel obstructions and it seems this is my life now. I feel really depressed and just start crying randomly knowing I did this to myself. I am 35, no kids, great boyfriend but he doesn't understand. I just never even knew of all of the complications and it seems like they will never stop. I will speak to my doctor and I know you may only be able to provide your experiences/opinions but I am really low here and need a friend. Please. I'm scared. Any thoughts? Am I destined for a life of surgeries. Am I now prone to internal hernias and possible twisting? Thank you if you read my post, it means a lot.
Hi! I'm doing pretty well. Holidays were tough to stay on track, but, getting back now. I've lost about 40# since my surgery in August. I feel great! My sleep apnea is much better, my back and knees hurt less and I have more energy.
How are you?
