Hi Carolyn,

I have been trying to call you to see how your removal surgery went but have only been able to get a message to call back. Please call me I am trying to do find out as much as I can before I make my final decision about having mine removed. And I must find a doctor. Last time I tried to post my phone number they kicked it back so I am going to spell the numbers to see if I can get it out there. (four, three, two) Five, two, eight - five, nine, two, zero.

Anybody who has any helpful information regarding the removal I would love to hear from you as well.

Topic: RE: Revision Lap Band vs Sleeve? Help

I wouldn't get the band over bypass. Instead I would work on why you are taking that "one extra bite".

What will happen with the band is all the good healthy foods like the dense protein and stuff will get stuck and it will come back up. Then one realizes that eating things that seem to slide right through is a better thing. Only problem is that those things that slide through are usually crap foods chips, ice cream, etc. I had the band for several years and at first things were great, but after a few years I started having issues with a tight band and reflux. Got everything taken out of the band, but the reflux stayed. Besides tums eating ice cream seemed to help, but it also helped my gain weight back.

I revised a few years ago from band to bypass and I couldn't be happier.

Best of luck to you.

I had a revision as well 6 months ago but was still having reflux. I sought a second opinion and he thinks my surgeon did not fix a hiatial hernia that was detected on a CT scan prior to surgery. He also thinks he made my pouch too big. So waiting on an appointment with Cleveland Clinic. Glad your reflux resolved. Been dealing with mine for three years

I am following this as I found out from my endocrinologist that my hiatal hernia was reduced in size but actually not repaired. He was reading the post op report. I don't get it. My endoscopy showed both severe GERD and a hiatal hernia. I have been able to reduce the number of PPI medications but I am still taking 1-2 a day. I have no idea about the size of my pouch

Topic: RE: Revision loss rate

I had revision from VSG to Gastric Bypass due to GERD. I lost 133 pounds which was all my weight. I maintained for 4 years. I regained at different times as I lost and regained again. At the time of my surgery I had a regain of 70 pounds. It blows me away just seeing that.

My surgery was on November 1 and as of today I have lost 32 pounds. I lost faster with VSG. I believe the difference is the hormonal factor which I believe you only get the first time. Since you had the band, hence no removal of any part of your stomach, I believe your results will be quicker. This has just been my experience. I think if you speak with your surgeon about what to expect it would be helpful.

From what I have read about Bypass it is fairly hard not to lose a lot of weight the first year. I had the surgery for GERD and the weight loss is a bonus. I don't knno how much I will lose. At this point I would like to lose another 30 pounds. That would be true even if I did not have the surgery.

Wishing you well in your surgery and recovery.

Sometimes we get away from the basics that got us to goal and helps keeps us there. Ditto to what everyone said and here is a list of the basics that helped me, hopefully it will help you too. YOU GOT THIS!

Planning/Preparing

Remember when we were preparing for surgery? How many meetings, classes and such did we attend? We were told the more prepared we were the better our chances were for success. And they were right. Go through the house, car and work place and get rid of trigger foods. Stock up on foods that will keep you on track. I removed every bad carb/sugar temptation and replaced it with lots of protein, veggies, grains and fruits.

Journaling

Get back to journaling. This will help you identify when you feel like eating, stress factors and any triggers in your life. Once you identify these factors, this will help you put tools in place to keep you from eating. It became clear I was not taking time for me anymore. I worked my day job and then spent the rest of my time caring for my husband. It was easy to reach for fast, prepackaged food. Since I purged my home I have to eat clean as there are no other options LOL

Use a tool to track you're eating and exercise like Getting Started with Health Tracker. Once I started to track ever bite and drink it became clear why I had gained.

Goals/Rewards

Make a list of goals for yourself. Make them realistic and small. Some of mine were move more, purge all junk from my home, eat more protein. If you didn't make a Weight Loss Surgery bucket list when you first had surgery do it now. GREAT reminder of all the things you can enjoy in life after losing weight.

Food

In general, a long term post-weight loss surgery eating plan includes foods that are high in protein, and low in fat?, calories, and sugar. Important, vitamins and minerals are provided as supplements. (if you had a different surgery adjust this to your food plan).

Water

Water is our Best Friend. I have to say I never went back to pop or any bad drinks, however I was drinking tea like crazy. What is wrong with drinking tea? I was either using sugar or 3 equals and 3 sweet n lows per 32 ounce glass. I found once I started carrying one of the metal bottles of water to keep it cold I drank water all day.

MOVE!

I can't say enough about how key this was for me. The reason I kept my weight off for almost 10 years was no matter what, I kept moving. If I could not go to the gym I would walk. Grab a cart and walk all the isles at your local box store. I loved Zumba, bootcamp workouts, lifting weights. When I stopped, the weight started coming back. So for me I am starting slow to avoid injury by walking and using some of the workouts on my Demand TV. Find something you love to do and it won't feel like a pain in the *** to do daily.

Support

If it's an option "run" don't walk to a support group. Come here on OH daily for support and participate in one of the food threads. It helps you be accountable and also great ideas for food prep.

Keep me posted on how you are doing.
