Hi everyone just wondering if everyone who has the VSG that has experienced Acid reflux are coffee drinkers...I am sleeved as well and was a big coffee drinker before surgery but I am afraid to touch it now for fear it will give me acid reflux and ruin my sleeve. I am almost 6 weeks post op and have not experienced any acid reflux yet. Thanks.

I had 2 iron infusions about 6 months ago. I was anemic before the sleeve. But it went down to a 5. The infusions went well and so far so good. Back to normal and holding. I'm worried about the dumping too but I guess that's a good deterrent for not eating junk.

I've regained 20 myself and to my eyes, it looks like so much more! I'm already anemic and getting infusions but right now I really just take my multivitamin and reflux meds. I'm scared I'm going to become deficient in other things because of the malabsorption factor. And it would just be my luck to dump. Lol But it sounds like with the diabetes, RNY would definitely benefit you. Thanks for getting back to me!

I've gained about 30 pounds back. It doesn't sound like a huge amount. But to my body it's huge. I'm back in the obese range. I hate that word! My diabetes has gotten bad again and am back to several shots of insulin a day.

I'm so mad at myself for slipping back like this. My Dr says that in my case the rny is going to get rid of the diabetes forever.

As far as can motivations go, I already have the heartburn and gerd. I'll cross any other bridge as I come to it. What long term problems are you anticipating?

Thank you for your reply! How much weight have you regained, just out of curiosity? Are you concerned with long term complications with RNY?

Thank you for your reply! Lately I've been thinking of just going straight to RNY. My surgeon HAS agreed to fix the hernia although he also wants to use LINX. 50% chance it resolves the reflux. I have a few concerns. One being what if just fixing the hernia doesn't work? Then I would have had surgery for nothing. Also, I don't really want to have another surgery to revise if it doesn't work. But #2, I'm worried that I'll end up with more deficiencies and be one of the lucky ones that gets dumping if I do go RNY. I'm used to my sleeve. I'm a single mom, and I have a hard time with childcare, so the recovery of 2 potential surgeries (if just repairing the hernia doesn't work) has me nervous. But my mom has pointed out, if I go straight to RNY there's no going back. So then I'm back at the decision of baby steps and seeing if the repair works. Lol I'm all over the place! I have another appt with my surgeon in a month, I need to quit smoking before he'll submit to insurance. Gives me more time to research!

I wish you luck also! I had read something about that but was unsure about it because I didn't see many review their outcome but being able to remove it is great. Definitely update.

Hi there, I was scheduled for surgery next Thursday the 28th, I called yesterday and canceled it! I didn?t have peace about it, so I went and searched if there was any alternative. Someone on another forum told me that her surgeon doesn?t convert folks to bypass but instead performs the LINX procedure. I then reasearched that and yesterday I had my first consult with another surgeons RN in my area that does these! As my bariatric surgeon does not. Google it, it?s a tiny ring of magnets that is placed at the bottom of the esophagus that allows food to go down but keeps the flap closed and doesn't allow acid back up. It's one day in the hospital, you eat regular food immediately, only off work for two weeks, no rearranging anatomy and if for any reason it doesn?t work out it can be removed. I see the surgeon on the 9th of April. Good Luck!

Did you ever have surgery? I had my VSG in DEC. 2014 and I'm moving to a bypass April 17.
