Pouch trimming & insurance?
My pouch is huge, I have been able to maintain my weight loss at 330 from 502 for 2 years...but in the past year have had new co-morbid conditions occur which really make it neccessary for me to lose more but it is difficult since I am able to eat normally. I have tried hard to keep from regaining. My neurologist put me on Topamax and I have lost about 25 since December, my surgeon has recommended "trimming" my pouch. The insurance lady at his office said she had checked with my insurance before my appointment and they would have covered banding the pouch revision, but trimming would be different and she would have to re-check and they might cover it without wanting a lot of documentation, some documentation, or flat out say no. Anyone else had this experience?
I believe my question was if anyone had an experience with insurance covering pouch trimming, not that I was questioning what type of revision to have. I find it very annoying and bothersome that everytime I post on this messageboard I get a response suggesting that I consider revision to DS, like it's a miracle procedure...well guess what none of the surgeries are...all of them have their own pros and cons and trust me I have researched and discussed MY situation with 3 SURGEONS and my other specialists since I have far more medical problems than being overweight. I have seen people on the boards who have stoppped losing, like I did, after DS, or have gained back weight after DS, so no one is convincing me that it's all peachy keen afterwards.
I am having the same problem- I can eat the same amount I could pre-op. Tonight I am going to a required seminar (before the Dr will even talk talk to me) and I am looking at getting banded because the chance of ins covering trimming my stomach is slim. I would much rather have a smaller stomach(pouch). I have maintained around 200 lbs, but I am now gaining because I feel the need to eat more now that it is stretched out. I still need to lose more as I am really short, so I am really concerned abou the gain- I need to go in the opposite direction.
Good luck to you-
Donna
He offered to do the banding with hernia repair, but I am still 200lbs over ideal weight and the trimming would give me more weight lose. He would use mesh with the hernis repair so he wouldn't fix it with trimming because of infection risk if their is leaks. But I am also getting a second opinion and I believe this surgeon does not use mesh for hernia repairs so their is a chance I can get the trimming and repair together and maybe a chance for joint insurance coverage??? We'll see....good luck to you too. I'm 5'3 a few more inches would do wonders for me BMI
