band over RNY
Hello, the main message board sent me hear. Has any one had the Lap band over RNY.. How did you get it done.. Are any of you in Texas..
How did the what did the insurance say..
I have had 2 surgeries already . 1 in 1984 that failed and 1 in 2004. which I believe has failed. I spoke to my dr. and got no where.. I need to loose 75lbs to get anywhere near my goal.. Im just so afraid of gaining what I have lost back.. I have no food restriction AT ALL..
Please help with any responses..
Thank you
Carmalla
I had it done. and my insurance paid for it after they were told it was to fix my rny not for wls. The band, for me is 50/50. It has helped me overall to maintain my weight; but I have not lost anything. Unless you are actively 'dieting' its not going to. The band is limited - it will only limit 'dense' foods not soft/liquid foods; since I don't get full, it only helps if I limit to dense foods; which can be hard. Personally if I could go back in time, I would have insisted on a DS instead of the lapband. But back then very few if any doctors would even consider fixing a stoma problem. The lapband was a last resort to having nothing. So I give it 50-50.
with what you have left to loose;the ds may be a better option than the band.
I have just the band (no RNY first). It's definitely been done before and there's no reason that it wouldn't work just like someone who has been banded.
BUT -- the band is totally different than RNY, so make sure you do lots of research before heading down that path.
