Open RNY gastric bypass after lapband
I had the lapband done in 2000, I had to have it removed in 2005 because of complications.Iam scheduled for March 8th to have the Open RNY micro pouch gastric bypass. I am very nervous, I was told that it is more risky because of the scar tissue. Has anyone had this done? Please help, I am looking for any reassurance. Thanks
I'm in a similar situation--had my band removed 3 years ago and am looking to now have RNY.. my surgeon explained that initially the lapband was less risky--but since having it removed and the scar tissue is there...that it'd be about the same risk to re-do the band vs. the RNY. He also indicated that the overall risk was about the same now for band vs. RNY (I was wanting to be re-banded..but now I'm going for the RNY).
If you'd like to email and compare--let me know.

had vbg way back in 1988. poor excuse for a surgery 85 per cent failure rate. just had a open rny last october 26 and am doing great. following all the doctors orders, have lost 102 pounds already. the scar tissue wasnt a problem he apparently used one side of the old failed pouch for a side of the new pouch. my old was so bad that the dr said he could have put 4 cameras down there. biggest difference for me is that i have a dynamite support group and dr. staff this time. at 57 years old i am at the other end of the age spectrum this time, but more determined to get er done! best to you dave
Hi, How did your surgery go? I noticed you listed your surgeon as Dr. Cahill - he was mine as well. Did you do your band and/or your revision? I had open RNY June '03 and am now seeking a revision. I went to Dr. Cahill but he only offers a band over bypass revision and I'm seeking for more of a malabsorption revision so I'm looking around for a 2nd opinion. Have you been successful since your surgery? Thanks! Carolyn
